The Maverick paint quality is a new Ford feature to get you a head start on that desirable old truck patina look…

What's sad is the "fake" versions of these. Just get new paint, move to the rust belt and in two years: Patina!

Not only did I have countless chips from small stones all over hood and bumper and marks on the windshield I had paint peel off from where bumper meets fender on the side from a crappy cheap electric pressure washer with minimal pressure. Literally on the seam where no rocks could hit and it did the same to both sides.

My update for this thread. Ford never did crap. I had to buy their paint pen kit and they didn't even cover that. I touched up the paint chips and it looked better after.

Here's the interesting part. The majority of the paint chips happened in the first 6 months of ownership. In the 18 months since I've only had 1 or 2 other ones. Same commute to work, same driving.

It's almost like the paint wasn't cured and that's why the first 6 months they came off in those flakes. Very weird.

So for now it's not as bad with them being touched up but the future is uncertain. They also discontinued the Alto Blue damn quick so perhaps they knew they had issues with that color.

Honestly none of that would surprise me. Paint quality on vehicles across the board seems to have taken a turn for the worst. Lots of improvements in the process, but if they don't translate to longevity then what's the point? Oh, that's right... penny pinching.

Thankfully I have been overall lucky but there are some scratches that will be there forever. I've kinda given up. Seems like the used vehicle market chalks that stuff up to being normal anyways and as long as the frame isn't rusting and cracking in half *coughs... TOYOTA... then I'm happy. But my previous Escape had more eye sores in the first year and a half than I could count and it was their Ice Metallic White that I paid extra for too. I love white vehicles, but after that, seeing how many down to primer chips it had, I'm not sure I could ever get anything other than silver/grey again.

1 front passenger side, 1 fender driver side, and 1 driver side behind passenger door. Waiting to either touch up and ppf or trade it in on a 25.

2023 Hybrid XL Oxford White here.
same use case as yours (about a 50-75 km commute each way daily, about 30,000 kms on the truck, take good care of it). I just used a touch up pen on TWELVE paint chips. I don’t tailgate and I have a hood deflector after getting two chips on the hood’s leading edge after two weeks of driving.

I had a 2015 Dodge Caravan with 250,000kms with no major paint chips.

Love lots about this truck but wow, the paint job is terrible.

Just don’t do the ford mud flaps, they cause another paint problem :)

Service advisor looked and seemed to agree the flakes and number were weird, he had a guy take it to the body shop for a look so waiting to hear what they say. I think even he was surprised when he saw them.
What was the outcome?

Numerous chips on mine with just 10,000 miles. I blame it on thin paint. I'd be curious to know the actual thickness compared to various other vehicles of both the same year and other years. It's ridiculous how many I have already, including some very big ones near the drivers/passenger door edge.

Some would say climate change is making rocks harder and the edges sharper. I blame the climate change activists for forcing automakers to switch to water based paint instead of acrylic.

3 chips on the front of my 2023, checked my 10+ year old ram and jeep patriot....zero chips on either. Don't think I'll be keeping this Ford as long as the Chryslers. Debating picking up the hybrid I have on order.
