LED trailer light help.

Hoping someone can help. 24 ECO XLT. I pull a small flats boat occasionally. The trailer has LED lights. When starting up, I get a message that says trailer connected. Cool. But then not connected, and back and forth. Then warning for turn signal fault. So lights on trailer work, then they don't. Off and on the whole trip. Replace all lights and wiring. Same issue. Grounds are good. Will load resistors fix this? If so, do I need 3? Left signal/brake. Right signal/brake, and running lights? Any help is sure appreciated.

Description

On your vehicle it is possible that the trailer module trm may lose communication at vehicle start-up. If a trm loss of communication occurs and a trailer is connected to the vehicle, trailer stop lamps and turn signal indicators will not function. Additionally, for trailers equipped with electronic trailer brakes, the trailer brakes will not function. This loss of communication can occur with-or-without a trailer connected to the vehicle and can only initiate at vehicle start-up. If this occurs, a trailer brake module fault notification will pop-up on the vehicles instrument panel cluster. The vehicle brake and turn signal lamps will continue to operate normally and are not affected by this trm fault. If you do not tow with your vehicle, you may wait for ota deployment for your vehicle remedy.

Safety Risk

This may result in inoperable trailer brake lights, trailer turn signals and trailer braking functions that can reduce a drivers ability to control an attached trailer and make the trailer less visible to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Software is available to repair your vehicle. Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to reprogram your vehicles trm free of charge.

A mobile technician from the Ford dealership where I bought my Mav came out this morning and completed the 26C10 recall. I was told they submit them to Ford for payment, and it takes 24-48 hours before it will show up as done.

Let us know if the recall fixes the problem. I had mine done earlier this week, but I did not experience the light problem when towing.

2025 Hybrid had same problem. The trailer module update done OTA did not fix problem. I took it in and they re-did the update and all is well. Took less than 30 minutes.

Sounds like either / or both remedies would work.

Sounds like current draw of your trailer is too small. Resistors or adding additional LED lights or a single incandescent light would solve this.

Also sounds like the reason for the software recall was to modify the current to detect a trailer threshold.

Explains why I never had trailer light issues in 4 years of towing. Both my trailers have LOTS of lamps.
