Yeah your assumption is right. The non-lux headrest was just a little too far forward for me. I ordered the lux headrest from the dealership and it came in today. It’s a very minor, but noticeable, difference in the two. I used the Ford points I got from buying the truck to pay for it. Not sure if the difference is worth the amount they want for the headrest (I think it was around $130 or so). But there is a noticeable difference and feels more comfortable to me.
In that case, money well spent.

any chance there is a tilt-able headrest for the "plain old XLT" with blue/grey/orange interior? part #?

I have not checked my XLT headrests closely. But some cars have a zipper or velcro fasteners holding the cover on. If so buy the Lariet ones and swap out the covers. You could order with BAP Lariet ones because they would match better than tan and blue.

hey again- just checked my XLT headrest and the cover does come off-has one of those fitted/snappy type closures like the seat covers. All I have to do is find a LARIAT headrest or 2-thanks for the help!

Yes, old thread.

I just got my 2025 Lariat, but as far as I can tell the headrests do not tilt. I'm hoping I'm just doing it wrong as I find the headrest too far forward and just removed it. Can anyone confirm one way or the other?

As far as I can tell, there is no add-on Lux package for the Lariat trim for the 2025 model year. The Lariat just gets most of the bells and whistles, just not a fore-aft adjustable headrest.

Can you rotate them 180° granted they will not snap into position.

I recall seeing a thread where someone replaced the headrest from another model and it wasn't as forward. I'll probably look into that, but the headrests do fit in backwards meanwhile.

Those headrest's were from a Ford Escape and just so you know. The supports are not an exact fit to the receiver in the seat back. They had to be trimmed or new plastic receivers installed.

I had the same issue as OP, hate the non adjustable headrest. I swapped my 24 XLT cloth headrest cover with a lariat leather adjustable headrest with no issue. The cloth cover doesn’t have as much cloth to be stuffed into the posts but it’s barely noticeable from the backside. Functions great. Ordered the headrest from a totaled Mav off eBay - you could buy it OEM as well.
