Went in for 3 year 30k service and dealership replaced the rear differential as they said they saw metal in the fluid. Got truck back and it drove terribly. Jerky gear shifting up and down at low speeds.
Insisted they take it back and now they are replacing the transmission! They’ve had it 14 days and still no delivery of transmission.
I ordered a 2025 Lariat hybrid and can’t even get a guesstimate on delivery. Feeling like it might be time to switch to another truck.
Has anyone had 2022 issues like this?

Fifteen more days in the shop and it’s a lemon. I recommend going through the process if that happens. In CA, it starts with the BBB. You do not have to accept a buyback. I got my truck fixed and $5k.

Thanks for the info. I will start to look into that right now.

Did they say how much metal was in the rear diff fluid or show you? It is normal to see some shavings or "glitter", but if there were actual chunks then that's a different story.

It's a 2022. Well past the lemon law limit.

Yes. I had my transmission overhauled under warranty a few weeks ago at 38K miles. Not a big deal. Stuff happens. Works great now. No reason to be so dramatic.

Is the Hybrid or EcoBoost? I have a 22 EcoBoost with 41K. Changed the Diff fluid at 30K (and transfer case fluid). There was no evidence metal in either. I was a bit leery of of the Hybrid with the Continuous Variable Transmission - personally not a fan of the feel of the CV's, main reason I went with the EB along with preferring to have AWD.

It could still be under the original warranty.
It is - which is why he is getting the items replaced....under warranty.

Warranty length has nothing to do with lemon laws.

In California it is 18 months or 18k miles - OP is well past both milestones.

Are you comparing your experience to a conventional CVT or the eCVT in the Maverick?

The Ford Maverick uses an eCVT (electronic continuously variable transmission) in its hybrid models, which is different from a traditional belt-driven CVT. The eCVT is based on a planetary gearset and two electric motors, rather than belts and pulleys. This design is similar to what's used in Toyota hybrids and is known for its reliability and smooth operation.

Traditional CVT vs. eCVT:

A standard CVT (like in the Nissan Rogue, for example) uses belts and pulleys that can wear out and cause issues. The eCVT in the Maverick, however, is a more robust system that uses a planetary gear set and two electric motors to achieve variable gearing.

Reliability:

The eCVT design, being based on a Toyota system (like in the Prius), is generally considered very reliable.

Smooth Operation:

The eCVT provides a smooth, seamless driving experience with no traditional gear shifts. This can be a significant advantage for drivers who dislike the "rubber-banding" sensation some CVTs produce.

Hybrid Focus:

The eCVT is specifically designed for hybrid vehicles and is paired with the 2.5L hybrid engine in the Maverick.

No Belts or Pulleys:

Unlike traditional CVTs, the Fird Maverick's eCVT does not have belts or pulleys, which are potential wear items.

Ford's eCVT is not based on Toyota's system. Ford and Toyota shared/licensed patents around their own hybrid technologies.

Ford had licensed about 20 patents of Toyota's first gen system while holding more than 100 patents of their own.

It's a very loose association. Since the HF35 Ford has been doing it in house. Aisin did it before.

It's an EcoBoost. In 2022 I couldn't get the Lariat in AWD in a hybrid.

No, they just said they saw metal pieces and decided to replace it. All the work is being done under warranty.

Oh I didn't think I was being dramatic but it did seem odd to me that two large repairs - a rear diff and a transmission - had to be done at 29,000 of what has been easy driving.
