Had 4 salesmen call me today regarding a Maverick XLT. First began with $5k over msrp of $29k. Then $7,500, and then $10,000. We finished out at $42,700 and I laughed at them and requested to be placed on the do not call list. Some smart person went in there and paid like $12k over asking shortly there after. People really need to stop paying these prices. 🙄

How can you call them scumbags when people are willing to pay? It is what it is, the dealers near me have no new cars on their lot, I really don't blame them for marking up what they do have.
No, they're scumbags.

I understand supply and demand, blah, blah, blah. But it just seems to me current market conditions are a case of, "Just because you CAN charge $12,000 over sticker doesn't mean you SHOULD." My opinion.

My opinion is also that someday, after the current market insanity has passed, many people will remember the dealers who took advantage while they could and will go out of their way to take their business elsewhere. At least I know I will...

Okay, clearly you don't own a business or understand supply and demand. One thing most clueless people don't understand when they say Dealers are supposed to sell at MSRP is what MSRP actually is an abbreviation for. It's Manufacturer's SUGGESTED Retail Price, key word there being SUGGESTED. If I ran a business and had much less of whatever I sold to make a profit, guess what? I'm going to raise the price on what I do have. Pretty simple........

I'm glad some people get it........OP is just super salty
I love watching some of you folks justify this type of crap by a dealership. Please remember your justification of this in the coming months. It's going to be a bumpy ride.

I could care less what they charge, I found a dealer willing to honor X-plan pricing on an order but they're also selling their dealer stock units for $10k over and I don't blame them. I also run a side business and although I provide services, if I sold goods I would definitely raise my prices if I had less access to them. Most people who are salty didn't have the foresight to place an order and just expect dealers to not look out for their own best interest which is ridiculous. Guess what, if someone is willing to pay 10k over for a Maverick, how could you blame the dealer?? Do you think it's your RIGHT to be sold a Maverick at MSRP when someone is willing to pay more? The argument is pretty ridiculous

I'm with the school of thought that dealers are free to mark up their stock vehicles as they see fit. However, retail orders are a different story. If you verbally tell me msrp, then I expect you to honor that.

I have no problem with dealers charging over MSRP on what they have on the lot.

If someone wants to pay 30k for a 20k truck, more power to them.

I do have a problem with dealers marking up custom orders, though.

If they try to charge a markup on a custom ordered car, that's bad, but if they do it on random cars on their lot, then yeah that's common sales practice. A dodge dealership near me put a 75k markup on a Demon Challenger and somebody paid it.

But, by charging markups, they can't get angry when people purposely mess around with them to waste their time. That's just part of the business.

I know several people who ordered vehicles from reputable dealers at MSRP and under, took delivery and then flipped them right away for $10K over. Are they scumbags too, or is that OK ?

I mean, it's car sales, people mess around and waste their time when the market is normal and there are no markups.

I think everyone is in agreement that marking up a special order beyond the agreed upon price is messed up but I fully think dealers should markup their dealer stock if dumb people are willing to pay the markup.
