I keep a booster pack in each of my vehicles, including my Can Am Spyders. I won't be without them, as batteries don't give a warning befor they die. My first is a Rugged Geek, but it was very costly. The others are from Amazon, and I just make sure they will start a large engine. I average about $50 each for these.
I used one I keep in my Florida Can Am two weeks ago to start an 1800 cc Gold Wing. It fired it right up.

My Ex neighbor bought one of those golo GT4000 battery packs, to jumpstart his wife's old 89 v8 Mercedes. He said, the jumper came with the battery charged to 75%.
He wants to charge it up to 100% but didn't know how. He said, something about needing a special 100 watt charger.
I recall something about lithium ion batteries were better off not fully charged, if they were going to be stored.
I have a superconductor so I had no idea what to tell him.
Can you give me any advice that I can pass on.
Thank you.

I don't have access to the instructions.
I don't feel like telling my former neighbor 'Read the instructions.'
I prefer something a little more insightful.

Find one???
I'm asking for advice. From somebody who's had experience with these lithium ion charging packs.
Do you charge them up to 100% do you have to use a special charger?
Are they better off being stored with less than a 100% charge?

Lithium Ion cells have their longest "shelf life' at about 60% charge. That is the ideal level to store them, and should have plenty of juice to jumpstart a few times at that level. However, if you jumpstart with them at that level, you need to charge them to 60% or greater immediately after use.

Storing Li-Ion at greater than 60% will degrade the overall cell capacity at greater rates, but you must weigh the benefits/cost of that for your individual usage.

I'll tell him 75% is fine.

I actually have a data point on this as of this month. In March 2024 when I bought my truck, one of the first "accessories" I purchased was a Noco GBX45. I charged it to 100% and threw it under the back seat, and there it stayed until mid-February 2025.

Co-worker with a ratty old Tacoma needed a jump, and though he had cables, I figured I would give the Noco a test run. I found it had depleted to 75-80% over 10 months of ignoring it.

Co-worker was very skeptical the little thing would jump his truck regardless of my Noco's charge level, but the Taco fired up right away like he had a new battery. Zero issues. I charged my jump pack back up using its USB-C port. :sunglasses:
