So, got put in Maverick Prison for a few weeks for expressing a political opinion.

While In Maverick Prison, had a series of bizarre incidents in life that I won't get into, but ultimately traded my '22 Maverick in and bought a '24 Toyota 4Runner SR5 Premium instead.

No regrets except for the gas mileage, but even that can be overlooked in relation to what I traded up for.

I'll still stick around the forum and check in from time to time because I'd like to continue to follow everyone's Maverick adventures. As for my own adventures, did the obligatory break-in period of 500 miles for my first two weeks of 4Runner ownership before taking off and heading for Key West. Have to return to reality tomorrow and drive home, give the Runner a top to bottom cleaning, and then return to work Wednesday.

Love Key West. Mad respect for the 4Runner - for what it is. An indestructible appliance that holds its value insanely well. Not sure I agree that the gas mileage can be overlooked because this is an "upgrade" - I have a friend with a 2018 4Runner that gets 15mpg consistently.

It is both a pro and a con depending on how you look at it, but this generation 4Runner is absolutely archaic. When I ride in my friend's I cannot find the appeal. I've tried.

Good luck, though, I know it will serve you well for eternity.

Better to get the current gen naturally aspirated than the turbo that is going to come to it from the Tacoma, sounds like it's nothing but trouble.
You know it! We'll see how these "upgraded" Tacomas and 4Runners do over the next few years. Should be interesting.

Congrats on locking in a practically indestructible vehicle. The new gen is going to be...rough...based on the Tacoma refresh.

So far I'm getting a respectable 19-20mpg city driving, but I'm not gunning it off the line and I'm actually keeping to the local speed limits., so I can at least no longer worry about getting pulled over for speeding. Pulling the camper, I was consistently getting 15mpg keeping at 60-65mph. For comparison, the Maverick could do about 17-19mpg, same speed. I will miss that Maverick gas mileage. With my EB my city mileage was 26-28, and the highway mileage was always 30-33 and sometimes would throw me numbers even higher than that.

It's definitely an upgrade all around. After driving the Maverick, and then had to drive my husband's F150 the other day to run an errand, driving the F150 was a total WTF moment. World of difference in how the different vehicles drive.

Congrats! If it has a moonroof it's the exact vehicle I've been shopping for. I've loved my mav but I can't bring myself to trust it over the long term. 2 years of nobody being able to tell me why the transmission is grabby did it for me. Great concept but after 4 recalls, a warranty repair and the trans issue it's time to say goodbye.

Hows the 4runner ride and handle? I have not actually driven one but if it handles reasonably well and is comfortable it's a go for me. 90's tech, v-6 and a 5 speed sound just about perfect.

Yep! It has the moonroof AND heated seats. Turned the heated seats on last night because the AC about froze me out while I was snoozing on our roadtrip home from the Keys. That's a special treat if you've never had that feature before in a car.

I wholeheartedly agree with your statements. I was scheduled to have the remaining two recalls done when I traded mine in.

All I can say is, for your own sake, please exit this forum immediately and take a drive to your local Toyota dealership and go test drive the 4R for yourself. My previous experience with 4Runners has been test driving used ones that were at least 10+ years old, had the bodies rusting off of them, not properly maintained, etc. A new one is an entirely different experience.

Go do it. You'll thank me.

As my husband said, "Maverick? What Maverick?"

I should also add (to quote Ferris Bueller) "If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up. I do love driving it...it is SO CHOICE!"
