Has anyone had any issues/problems with the hood release mechanism?

The cable came off the release handle so when I pulled the handle the entire cable moves instead of the inner cable attached to the latch. My dealer looked at it and ordered a new handle mechanism. (and of course it's back-ordered). I can still get under the hood by using a pair of pliers to hold the cable while pulling the handle.
There are several YouTube videos of folks who installed hydraulic hood struts on their Mavericks and then had the problem you describe. They show how to do repair/fix. Sorry for not linking but they’re out there.

I have seen the video where an assist spring was added to help lift the hood free of the latch. IMO, I'd sooner cruise a boneyard to find a more suitable spring than the one used if that's the only solution. Older Rangers had a spring built into the hood(well, bolted in place) that pushed on the top of the latch when the hood release was pulled. The latch stuck up into a square hole in the hood and rotated a finger onto a spot in the hole to keep the hood down. When the finger latch was released, the spring(arm style) would push a bit to open the hood. It seems the spring was optional based on year/equipment, and whether there was sound deadening material on the underside of the hood.
Wonder what happens to a Maverick release if sound deadening pads are attached to the underside of the hood...

I used hot glue. Have not had any issues since.
I have that, and may be able to drool some onto the cable sheath where it rests in the slot. If not, I will have to remove the lower panel. Too old to fit down into the pedal space readily any more, and when I try, I find I have pain things I did not even know were there.
Honestly, this is a crappy design as a retainer. Even making the slot into a "L" shape would have been a better idea(I think), and not much more difficult to assemble. Assuming the slot is part of the die for the plastic to be injected into. What do I know...

I was thinking about bending the edges of the bracket up a little. Very small width (part of the problem) so might not actually do much and getting to it probably not worth the effort.

RE hood springs: I think I've found adjusting the small bumpers at the front may have solved my issue. Backed them out 1/2 a turn and seems to be working better so far.

Raising the bumpers 1/2 turn will be my first step. It couldn't hurt.

For completeness here's one of those videos showing precisely where the issue could be.

Considering others without hood struts stay they got it - not sure about that being only cause - perhaps that adjustment is real reason.

If you installed an aftermarket hood struts then you need to add a hood spring, to pop it up, read some Jeep Wrangler forums
While hood struts are nice and don't get in the way.
As seldom as I open the hood.
I think, I'll keep using the prop rod.

Simple and cheap works for me.
