And a great photo showing that Ecoboosts are just fine with smaller lower grille openings...

That's great if "just fine" is what you're looking for. ;)

Well, personally I am probably going to end up tuning my truck, and maybe even swapping out the intercooler, so I don't know if "just fine" will be enough. For the record, I don't run a front plate anyway, even though it is technically required here. :bandit:

But the point is the Tremor has an OEM fascia with a significantly smaller opening, and I have no reason to think Ford expected that model to have a lighter duty experience than any other Maverick Ecoboost.

Anyway IMHO the dread about a license plate partially blocking the lower grille is overblown (no pun intended lol). It is just as likely that Ford mounted it high to meet visibility requirements as it is to maximize airflow...

I haven't really "worked" it much yet, but it does get pretty hot here in the summer. I've never seen the coolant go past 87C.

Oh, my! Gosh, I didn't mean to imply overblown "dread"!

I was just pointing out that a license plate blocking 1/3 of the intercooler opening probably isn't best for cooling efficiency. I don't know why anyone would care more about how their front license plate looks than how efficiently their intercooler works, but I'm that kinda guy. I'm actually surprised I'm having to explain that to you, @Carlitos_92

Sorry, wasn't laying all the "dread" at your feet. It has added up over three pages.

And there are a lot of things around here that surprise me, but I rank worrying about airflow on a stock truck intercooler up there with catch cans, changing the oil every 5,000 miles, and pulling telematics fuses. But we each got our own trucks to worry (or not worry) about.

Don't look now, but I'm the only one that has mentioned intercooler airflow in all three pages.

I also wasn't implying that it was anything to worry about, I just suspected that nobody (especially the Hybrid commenters) was considering that the OP's setup is blocking the intercooler, and not just the radiator. But yeah, I agree in general there is a lot of worry over nothing here in this forum, especially MPG, oil changes and intake valve buildup.

To low, mine had a notch in it that aligned with the black trim to show it was in the correct position

Anyone find a really cool license plate bracket for the rear end of the Maverick I hate the cheap dealership advertising bracket and the way it mounts?

Sadly it's supposed to go on the painted bumper, however if I had my choice I would put it over the inner cooler opening myself. If mine wasn't already pre-installed on the painted part of the bumper.

He even screwed up where the screws are supposed to go you can see the dimples and holes already in the bracket for the screws.

Thank goodness the state of Utah does not have front license plates effective January 1, 2025. If an existing vehicle has one, they can remove it. They are now only issuing a rear plate. The front end of the Maverick looks so much better without an ugly license plate staring back.

Why use a bracket on the back at all? I hate them all and never use them.

Yeah you’re probably right a bracket to frame your plate isn’t a requirement and actually violates Florida law

Intake air temperature, which is what would be most affected by partially blocking the intercooler/charge air cooler, can't be monitored without extra equipment.

It seems like there are a lot of "form over function" folks in this thread that are more concerned over how their front license plate looks than how efficiently their intercooler functions. I understand some of the comments, because they are from folks who have hybrids and aren't considering how the OP's turbocharger works.
while this may be the case, just think back to the initial pairing of the ecoboost with the F150's: originally, you could tell from the front, it was an EB due to the offset license plate..Ford later found that placing the plate in the center of the facia opening had zero effect on the cooling, so opted to pput it back where the gasser's had theirs

The Maverick intercooler isn't very efficient as it is, and that is proven by the gains from aftermarket designs that show fairly dramatic improvements. With that being the case, I'm not going to make the decision to block any part of it with a license plate just because it looks better. Could it be that partially blocking the intercooler opening with license plate doesn't actually affect the cooling like on the F150's? It could be, but until I have data that confirms that, I'm not going to change my mind and opt for form over function.

Just my $.02, take it with a grain of salt, you do what you want, yadda, yadda.
