Ford recalled 1,797 of its SUV models due to possible engine failure, which may increase the risk of fire and injury.

In the event of an engine failure, engine oil and fuel vapor can be released into the engine and accumulate near ignition sources, including a hot engine or exhaust components, according to the NHTSB.

Vehicles affected in this recall are:

  • 2020-2023 Escape
  • 2021-2023 Corsair
  • 2022-2023 Maverick.
The vehicles are equipped with 2.5L HEV or PHEV engines repaired incorrectly under recall 23V380.

Owners are advised to park and shut off the engine as quickly as possible if they hear unexpected engine noises, notice a reduction in vehicle power, or see smoke.

Dealers will update the powertrain control module software free of charge, NHTSB said.

Ford's number for this recall is 25S54.

Anyone with additional questions about the recalls can call Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.

This cryptic explanation of a recent failure involving smoke/fire came to mind as I read this: “…rapid unscheduled disassembly…”

372 = minuscule imho.

Back to the day…

So those 372 they didn't cut large enough holes in the felt underbelly liner???

Actually it says affected vehicles were thought to have been given the updated powertrain software but actually did not.

I wonder if I'm one and that's why my EV miles are like 60% and MPG is way above EPA estimates.

I hate to mess with a good thing.

Thank you for the additional information. I have a 23 lariat hybrid and it was built past the dates mentioned. One less thing to worry about. I really do love my little truck!

Is this for the incorrect software listed for the fire hood recall? My car is a 2020 Ford Escape Titanium Hybrid. The software got updated from Ford via mobile technician. My VIN isn’t listed yet. Should I be concerned and get this done if this is listed for my VIN? Hopefully someone can explains to me better.

"rapid unscheduled disassembling" best description of a vehicle exploding.

Yes, an older one. The fix is available and on my PHEV Corsair it is complete with no issues.

It's likely for the people that never got the recall done.
Perhaps one of those had a catastrophic failure, and Ford was told you better find those goofballs and finish this.

Which all the recall did was update the software system to hopefully catch the fact you might have one of the vehicles actually with a bad bearing, and stop you before it becomes a shot out the oil pan, creating a potential fire hazard.
Well - also shutters removed and hole created was solution before they found how to use sensors to see it early.

Or maybe they had to extend the range of production dates to include more unknown vehicles.
I'm doubting that one, seems they knew exactly when those engines were made, just not sure which ones had bad bearing.

Since it was never by specific VIN's (that was the issue - they didn't know who got the badly machined bearings) but by production date range, if your VIN isn't called out as being in that range, not a problem.
Besides you got the recall it sounds like.

Gotchya make sense. My car is within the production dates and there are no current recalls with my VIN except for that CSP if the engine block gets broken. I’m sure if I don’t receive a letter for this then yeah I am not going to be over concerned.

I have successfully ignored all the recalls for the 2022 hyrid, with the exception of the ones which they'll do by coming to my location and doing software. The actual recall for engine oil leaking is a band-aid fix which I will not allow them to do. They seem to have no fix for grabbing brakes at very low speeds and never have mentioned racing engine while going down long winding freeways like Knoxville to Asheville. These are the only two things I care about and no fixes for them. I will not let them mess with interior parts of my vehicle. No real issues with mine so far. Just drive and stay happy. I have driven round trip coast to coast with no issues. LOL...fuel mileage is poor at a steady 87 to 88 mph...about 21.1 mpg
