Ford recalled 1,797 of its SUV models due to possible engine failure, which may increase the risk of fire and injury.
In the event of an engine failure, engine oil and fuel vapor can be released into the engine and accumulate near ignition sources, including a hot engine or exhaust components, according to the NHTSB.
Vehicles affected in this recall are:
Owners are advised to park and shut off the engine as quickly as possible if they hear unexpected engine noises, notice a reduction in vehicle power, or see smoke.
Dealers will update the powertrain control module software free of charge, NHTSB said.
