Is this a scam or just a great price?

I doubt you need to worry about it being a scam, I would check the date code on the tire and initiate a return if theyre old. Probably a no worry purchase though.

The only thing that worries me is that they are sold by a third party seller. How old is too old?

Opinions vary and I drive a lot.

I wouldnt accept tires more than 2 years old, as the general consensus is to replace tires at 6 years old regardless of tread depth.

Walmart does have some good deals on tires. Got my RV Sailuns S637T 12 ply tires from them for about $40 cheaper per tire than other retailers online or local. They even delivered them to my home for free.

Just my opinion, but you have to live with a tire choice for multiple years, so I would spend more to get a good choice...

I wouldn't suggest Pirelli Scorpions at all. They were OEM on my FX4, and I thought they sucked. A particularly sucky point of note was wet-weather traction. AWD doesn't make one invincible, but I had consistent white-knuckle experiences on the road. And though sometimes fun, I am not sure a small truck should be able to spin all four tires and get wild from a stop on wet asphalt.

Michelin and Falken seem to be the go-tos around here, but both Discount Tire and Tire Rack websites have ratings and reviews, not to mention the dozens and dozens of tire recommendation threads on the forum. Good luck.

Hey there, thanks for the info. Is there any single tire you would recommend? I basically do all highway driving so MPG is the main thing I'm looking for, but I'd be willing to sacrifice a little bit for extra traction, especially when we get some winter snow.

With no offroad, the Michelin Crossclimate tires are well rated and liked, but they are more expensive... Discount Tire sells them around $230 a tire. About the same price at Walmart, but prices vary by location...

I agree with this. If OP is looking for an On-Road tire that does it all fairly well, the CC2s are a no brainer.

Thanks guys I'll keep this in mind. Do you have any recommendations for strictly MPG?

That's odd... I'm still on my Pirellis at 22K miles, but only because I'm cheap and haven't talked myself into trashing them while they still have "good" (relative term) tread. Though there are many things I dislike about them, poor wet traction is not a problem I've encountered.

Where MPG is concerned, in addition to not buying a tire that has more aggressive tread than you need, my suggestion would be to look for a tire that is light in weight for the category that you're interested in. Unsprung weight has a notable impact on efficiency. For instance, in the on-road all-terrain category, the Firestone Destination A/T is considerably lighter than its competitors. I'm not necessarily recommending that tire, I'm just using it as an example.

Agreed. Michelins and the Falkens have been getting the most recommendations from the club.
