Is there a tailgate lock?

Yes. I believe the XL model has a physical lock that you can lock with your key. The XLT and lariat models have in addition to the physical lock a lock and unlock that locks with the doors. I may be mistaken though

XL needs the key to lock, XLT and Lariat auto lock when doors are locked

I have an XL. There IS a tailgate lock, but you have to lock your tailgate with your key. It WILL NOT lock when you push the lock button on your key ring.

There's a thread here that details adding the power lock actuator and wiring harness for factory power locking tailgate integration on the XL. With new parts from Ford you could do it for under $150, if you can get the actuator used from a Ranger salvage yard and spend $60 on the wiring harness from Ford you could do it much cheaper.

That may be true, but the OP was asking if it comes with a tailgate lock. I'm perfectly OK with the keyed lock.

Hey, just putting it out there for info, a power locking tailgate is a must have for some people and I felt it was a relevant addendum to the thread.

The only thing about the key lock (for me), is the key doesn’t wanna go in…. You’ve gotta play with it and make sure it’s the exact right angle to go on (but it works…. Used my locking tailgate for the first time(s) this weekend)

Not a lock to prevent your tailgate from being stolen but a lock that locks your tailgate. And is it tied to your key if yes

My 2023 Lariat has a keyhole in the tailgate so I guess you use the emergency key use it?

I have a XLT and the tailgate is a power lock so when you lock the doors it also locks the tailgate. Which is really nice.
