If you want a tailgate lock do you have to order it when you order the truck? Or just tell the dealer when it comes in.

Or shop around on line at different Ford accessory dealers, Ebay etc. Could be a lot cheaper even for the Ford part. It is a simple one or two bolt installation.
I don't think its as necessary now that the tailgate opening latch locks. power with all the other doors on Lariat XLT and with a key on the XL.

It's an optional feature for XL models, configured when you order, and standard on XLT/Lariat. There's some other threads on this forum from users that have installed one after delivery, and what was involved with that.

It’s not poorly worded...
So your XLT Came stock with the Ford accessory lock (the topic of this thread) that prevents the tailgate from being removed as opposed to a “locking tailgate” on the XLT and Lariat models?

You're right, I misread the accessory name, I was talking about the locking tailgate latch, not this device.
