Kinda cool, but the Glass House is iconic. Would be cool if they auctioned off some stuff from it, like how they do when they demo old sports stadiums.
good point! I live near it so I'd go take a trip there and try to score some treasures. Never been inside of it but in that it was build in the mid 50s probably somewhat like the Time Life Building, MCM, lots of partition walls, orange couches, art deco fountains....maybe not!

I'm from Canton originally and my parents both work/worked at PDC, where this new HQ is (mom retires in November and is working at PDC now). Been in the Glass House a couple of times, but PDC more than I can count haha, more-so when I was younger. I think it'd be cool to look through some of the storage closets though, would probably be some cool finds with vintage coffee mugs, posters, etc! I can tell you PDC had TONS of cool artwork and posters on every wall. Would be really cool to have some of that stuff, it's top-tier man cave art.

Yep now I know why Fords are getting so expensive.
$45,000 mavericks will help pay for the windows in the building.

I guess they will be fifty thousand soon.

Yes, vent your rage at a new building. Ford should still be on Piquette Avenue.

Now we know why the cost of the Maverick has gone up so much!
nah, that's the tariffs. Mav is 100% hecho in Mexico.

Also, I was wondering why this is being built in Merkuh instead of a more financially attractive and accessible country, like Canada.

yes, but...
the headquarters in USA is different than manufacturing plants in not-USA. I may be stupid, but I don't think ( ) that intellectual output has tariffs applied, only real goods. Things such as design, management, and finance at the Ford plant or offices, even if in not-USA, wouldn't face any tariffs. I believe the tax rates and loopholes for such large scale companies are still in effect, so perhaps that is the reason to keep "headquarters" in USA despite the drastic tariff/tax being imposed on parts and complete products from not-USA.

I have an insider's access; my step-kid's grandad was the head accountant at Ford Motor Company for many years, and also wrote a lot of the USA foreign tax code. I'll ask him about this when I seen him next time. Of course, the rules and laws have changed since he was there; he's 90.

But there's 2.1 million square feet of SW engineers.
Ha, yep. But from what we've seen so far from ford software engineers handling of the hybrid's battery charging s/w code nightmare it may take more than that amount to get the soon to be 5 year old problem fixed. Plus its sorta hard to see any substantial positive results in QC/Recall issues their highly touted head of QC executive hired few years ago was gonna get under control.....

I never would've guessed you were asking why the headquarters was being built in the US, but now that you've clarified... 🤷‍♂️

  • The political and consumer backlash from moving this kind of legacy American company's headquarters to a foreign nation would be swift and severe. I don't know how Canada is more "financially attractive and accessible" than the US, but as a society we seem to be pretty forgiving on where things are made, because capitalism... The optics of where a company is based is something else entirely.
  • The labor force that will be working in this new facility is already local to it. Unless "financially attractive and accessible" is right across the Detroit River, you just shafted a lot of experienced employees who may have years/decades with the company. And even if you did build the new HQ in Windsor, you just added two daily border crossings for most of your employees. Uncool.

It's all about profits and nothing else. Everything else be darned. Until we face that one fact, nothing will change, sadly.

I'm basing it solely on short turn economics. I think the abrupt downturn in USA economics and economic status on a global scale is probably short-lived, and it should rebound in 5-10 years once we return to a post-industrial economic model rather than trying to bring industrialization back, as if we were a developing nation. Ford thinks longer term than I do, and they already own this land, so what they are doing makes sense for the long term. And it's a cool building. Dealing with the low corporate taxes/fees for having global headquarters in USA is likely the lessor of two evils, and perhaps Ford can pay some Congresspeople to alter the domestic tax code to compensate for the losses from having manufacturing plants for vehicles in other countries, and purchasing parts and materials from other countries. I suspect we'll see some special corporate deductions for this for 2026 or 2027 to counter the tariffs; but we consumers will still pay 10-30% more because the tariffs will be used as an excuse to raise prices. Profits are fun. Oh, and that's not even counting the rapid inflation.

Introducing the New Ford World Headquarters

Ford Maverick Introducing the New Ford World Headquarters {filename}

A version of this letter was sent to Ford employees on the morning of September 15, 2025.

Today marks another important chapter in our company's history. We are proud to announce a new Ford World Headquarters will be at the heart of our upgraded and reimagined Dearborn product development campus, the new Henry Ford II World Center.

This is more than just a new building; it’s a catalyst for innovation and a physical symbol of our Ford+ transformation. To win in this new era, we must work more closely together than ever before.

Our new headquarters is designed to make that happen, bringing thousands of our engineering, design, and technology team members together in one collaborative space – twice the size of our current HQ, and built to accommodate double the employees – to innovate and solve problems faster than ever before.

Our team is working hard to wrap construction as hundreds of employees are collaborating in the building already. While the majority of the facility will be complete this year, work will continue through 2027 on a final section of the site.

When that’s done, up to 4,000 people can work from our HQ with a total of 14,000 employees within a 15-minute walk of the new World Headquarters building, enabling greater collaboration in practice and proximity.

This is part of a larger investment in our people and our facilities across the globe. We are committed to providing employees with world-class workspaces, modern technology, and the best tools to do their life’s best work—from our global offices to our manufacturing floors. Our dealers around the world are likewise investing in their stores and service centers to elevate the customer experience.

For nearly 70 years, the iconic Glass House served as the nerve center of our global operations and we honor its incredible legacy. But the future of our industry demands a different kind of space – one that is more connected, more flexible, and built for the speed of a technology – and software-driven company.

As we continue to adapt our campus for the future, the Glass House will itself be transformed. Once our teams have vacated the building, it will be sustainably decommissioned and ultimately demolished over the course of roughly 18 months as we prepare to repurpose the site as an asset to our teams and our community.

We are working with the City of Dearborn on a plan for how the site can best serve our employees and neighbors, and we will have more to share about those plans later.

We will officially open our new World Headquarters this November, when all employees will be welcome to visit our new home to work, collaborate, or simply see the future for yourselves. We will also open the doors for public tours, sharing this new community landmark with our neighbors.

This is a pivotal moment. We are not just building the next generation of vehicles; we are building the next generation of Ford.

Thank you for being part of it.

Bill Ford and Jim Farley

Key Facts: New Ford World Headquarters

As the 122-year-old automaker invests billions throughout the enterprise to modernize, Chairman Bill Ford and CEO Jim Farley announced at an internal event today that Ford World Headquarters operations will move to its state-of-the-art product development facility at 20901 Oakwood Blvd. in November 2025.

The building anchors Ford’s refreshed Dearborn, MI campus, bringing cross-functional teams together to collaborate in practice and proximity. This ushers in a new way of working in the name of the next generation of automotive innovation.

Key Building Stats:
  • Scheduled Completion: 2027; work on a final section remains ongoing
  • Groundbreaking: December 2020
  • Size: 2.1 M square feet
  • Floors: 4
  • Contractor: Barton Malow
  • Primary materials: Glass, Steel, Concrete, Natural Stone, Natural Wood
  • Grand Opening: November 2025

Enabling collaboration, efficiency and innovation:
  • Any Ford employee can access collaboration space at the new building, which brings cross-functional teams together through three main types of spaces: Workplace, Amenities, and Unique Programming (Design Studios, Showroom, Fabrication Shops, and Garages) to support different working styles
  • When the building is complete, 14,000 employees will be within a 15-minute walk, enabling collaboration in practice and proximity
  • The building enables free movement of products, as it can accommodate a vehicle almost anywhere
  • Vertically-stacked layout reduces material movement time by more than 80 percent compared to the previous Product Development Center, a result of a two-year study leading to the final design of the building.
  • Workspaces are available throughout the building for employees, regardless of their assigned office, enabling collaboration across the Dearborn campus
  • The new Ford World Headquarters is more than twice the size of current headquarters (The Glass House) and supports twice the number of employees

Building Features & Amenities:
  • Six Design Studios allow for confidential reviews in indoor and outdoor space
  • Design Showroom enables Ford to conduct a full product review in one unified space for the first time, featuring 10 turntables and state-of-the-art lighting, a zero-degree pitched floor extending out to the courtyard review space, and a 64-foot micro-LED screen for comparing digital, full-size vehicles
  • Large event spaces for hundreds of employees with state-of-the-art technology to accommodate needs in-house
  • 160K square foot food hall will be accessible to all Ford employees
  • Wellness rooms, kitchenettes, mothers’ rooms

  • More than 100,000 square feet of interior courtyard space—accessible by all employees throughout the workday
  • 26 vehicle turntables throughout for product display and review
  • 12 acres of greenspace creates a walkable environment between facilities on the Dearborn Campus, more than doubling the tree canopy

Naming:
  • When the building officially opens in November 2025, it will be dedicated as Ford World Headquarters
  • The Ford Dearborn campus will be designated the Henry Ford II World Center, a name currently associated with the Glass House (Ford’s current headquarters)

Sustainability Highlights:
  • Ford developed sustainability goals tailored to the building’s unique programming, climate, and site. The design of the new World Headquarters is largely informed by WELL building standards
  • The new World Headquarters is designed as a Net-Zero Energy Building. Once completed, this ambitious initiative will incorporate key strategies targeting energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste reduction. A Central Energy Plant (CEP) will efficiently supply hot water and steam across the Ford campus, while participation in DTE Energy’s MI Green Power program will help achieve a net-zero carbon footprint.
  • The building’s design was informed by leading sustainability practices and is targeted to use around 50% less energy than our previous product development center

Site History:
  • The new World Headquarters Building is situated on the site of the former Ford Product Development Center, which opened in 1953
  • When the campus was first dedicated in 1953, U.S. President Dwight Eisenhower joined the celebration live through the first-ever use of closed-circuit television
  • Some of the most iconic American vehicles were born here on this site and throughout the Dearborn Campus, including the Mustang, Thunderbird, Continental, F-Series trucks, Ranger, and the Ford GT

The Glass House:
  • When the Glass House first opened in 1956, it was a place that inspired a generation of great innovators and birthed a long lineage of incredible products. Our new World Headquarters is designed to help us continue that legacy— enabling us to continue to invent, design, and develop products that lead the industry so we can compete and win across the globe in a new era
  • At the time, it was one of the nation’s largest office buildings occupied by a single company
  • The Glass House itself will also be transformed. Ford will complete the move out of the building in the first half of 2026. Afterward, it will be sustainably decommissioned and ultimately demolished over the course of roughly 18 months so that the site can be repurposed as an asset to our local community
  • Ford will continue to own the property, and it will continue to play an important role in the story of our commitment to Dearborn and Southeast Michigan for many, many years to come
  • Ford is working with the City of Dearborn and community leaders on how the site can best serve our employees and neighbors, and we will have more to share about those plans later

I wonder if anyone there will realize an automobile represents freedom and electric vehicles (not hybrids) limits that freedom. Also I wonder if anyone there will read ALL of the global scientists write on global warming other than what Al Gore wanted. Even his mentor disagreed with the doom he wants to project.
I love the environment and want cleaner air but I refused to be bullied by quacks.
Ready for the snookers to bomb me (give it your uniformed best).

did you know you can make electricity in dozens of ways, and gasoline from just one? You can even make your own electricity at home with simple equipment found at most hardware stores. I guess you could also make your own gasoline, I know you can make a usable diesel variety. Global crude oil supply is dwindling, and demand is rising via China and India wanting to live like 1950's USA with two cars in every garage. Multiply that reality with USA oil companies pumping out USA crude and selling it to foreign countries as fast as they can, because they pay more, and you have the clock running out on affordable oil/gas in the USA not too far into the future.

Anyway, one of those seems to have a lot more freedoms than the other, from a technical and logical standpoint. Maybe not an emotional one. Some hillbilly prepper can recharge his EV for years and years at his bugout spot without any gubmint or hippy interference. Kind of like making moonshine.

Oh, the batteries? Current technology ones have a lifespan of dozens of years, and there are many varieties of construction, so being dependent on raw lithium or cobalt supplies isn't really an issue anymore. Besides, most of the components can be recycled into new batteries once they finally lose their effective capacity. And current batteries recharge from 20% to 80% charge in about the same time it takes to fill a tank of gas and get a Big Gulp.

And the electric motors last longer, are cheaper to build and replace, and easier to repair than ICE motors. AUW recently sued the auto industry because the manufacturing of EVs took a lot fewer hours, and they would not be getting as much overtime, and might even have their work week cut back to 32 hours (4 days) to produce the same number of cars.

And the biggest setback for electric engines for some people is easily compensated for with speakers mounted underneath that make the VROOM VROOM sound. I suppose a smoke machine could be added as well.

Freedoms. All new cars have built-in nanny monitors and GPS locators and other nosey stuff, regardless of what type engine they have. Unless you know enough to disable them without the car knowing (it will cease to function if some of this nosey stuff is disabled).

But, I'm uninformed. You have to explain to me why ICE is an overall better format than EV going forward.

note: I have vintage cars, I monkey around with gas engines all the time. I'm not an "all or nothing" exclusionist idiot. I'm a special kind of idiot.
