I don't reach for the shift lever when exiting. I do however, continually forget to put the (damned) thing into park. I'm glad there is an auto-return-to-park feature or my truck would have slidden down the hill.

I digress... all this talk of shifters and clutches misses out on the real fun. Fly into the UK and rent a car -- No automatics (unless booked/reserved specifically in advance), shifter is left handed and you are on the right. Everything but the left foot clutch is backwards. ... and then there are the roads, ninety degrees to the right really means two seventy to the left.

Welcome to the club. I haven't encountered that on my Maverick yet, but when I bought a Ram 1500 several years ago. It's the one thing I really dislike about the vehicle. Every time I go to throw it in reverse or park I have to watch that I'm not grabbing at the blower or volume knobs; especially if you're in any situation which requires you to react quickly. I can't tell you how many times I've gone to throw it in reverse to back into the driveway, with cars coming down the road, only to realize I've turned the blower down. Never make that mistake with a real shifter.

So I'm literally just a few days into actually having my truck, and I love the crap out of this thing -- but every time I go to park the Maverick, I keep instinctively reaching for a shift lever to put it in park and grasping air. Then, hoping no one noticed, turning the knob to put it in park. 😆

I can't be the only one who has done this.
Will take some getting used to. Will be good for the wife who has only ever driven stick shift. She has jerked an automatic shift down into L when taking off when we rented cars.

On my drive home from the dealer, I put the truck in gear and cleaned my windshield!

I've only had mine for a week or so. I was afraid that I would have this same problem, but so far, so good.

The only problem I am having is remembering to take the parking brake off when I put it into gear. But that only happens one out of about 5 times...;) I'm sure I'll get better.

What makes it worse is that my wife ML350 has the controls reversed from my Maverick. So when I try to put her car in gear, I change the radio station.......just got my Medicare card yesterday......guess it is starting!!!!!

Began driving legally at 16 now 67 and have always driven manual 3, 4, 5, 6 speeds in passenger vehicles. Getting lazy in my days looking forward to the auto. My XLT EB FWD delivery expected by 2/28/2023 (16 months).

I thought you were having manual clutch and row withdrawal symptoms. I really miss manual transmissions too.

My thought is the radio dial to shift the vehicle into Drive, Reverse or Park is some kind of joke designed by a Millennial that had IPods.....😖

I love the shifter, I just wish there was a better solution to the drive modes button. It was a lot more satisfying to shift down into "sport" on an older automatic Ford. I love the L button, if it was a "sport button" instead I think I would be really happy with it, but that makes less sense.
