Insane pricing by dealer installed tonneau cover

I am expecting delivery of my 2023 FX4 this week. I went ahead and ordered a REV hard roll up tonneau cover from Ford so I can have them install it prior to taking delivery. When I placed the order, I did not select the option to have it installed for $96, as I thought this would be the same price at the dealership. Boy was I wrong, they quoted me $396 to install it. I asked them how many billable hours they were charging for, and they told me two. Any thoughts on this? Does anyone have a link for a DIY install?

If it’s like any other cover it’s likely a very easy 1 hour job taking into account your 30 minute lunch break, and 5 minute coffee break. My MX hard tri-fold took ~30 minutes of easy effort.

Oh look, another service writer quoting you to make $300 on an easy BS job so they can fluff up their profit margins. Shocker. Though this involves more labor than when I was quoted $300 (subaru dealer) to replace a cabin air filter (I burst out laughing in the guy's face), it follows from the pattern.

Covers are really easy to install. Tell them to go pound salt, that price is ridiculous. $96 is reasonable. $396 is highway robbery.

I installed my bak revolver in an hour, with no instructions and never having done one before. I wouldn’t pay that price. For $100 it may be reasonable for you, $300+ no way!

I am 76 years old, with a heart attack and 5 bypasses a few months ago, two lower back surgeries, etc. and I installed mine in 30 minutes by myself. That pricing is a joke.

Covers are simple to put on. I have a soft tri fold cover. I take it on and off a lot depending on what I'm hauling. Takes me all of 2 minutes to remove and 2 minutes to put back on. I know the hard rolling covers are probably a little more difficult but shouldn't be that bad.

Gater Tri-Fold....initial install, had to take to take it out of it's box, read the manual, and install, took 30 minutes. Now, knowing what has to be done, I can easily put it on in 15 minutes.

I was quoted $98 this week to replace inside air filter in the glove box... I did it in 15 minutes...to save the $98 bucks and 2 hr trip to the dealership.

My Friend they are right it is very easy to install the cover . I wish I lived closer we could get together and do ourselves. Maybe try and find a friend and help you honestly it is very easy I hope that you are able to find someone to help you install it. Also don't forget Karma two edged Sword It Cuts Both Ways That Dealer will get there's . I installed the REV Rollup tonneau on my Tremor yesterday.
As long as you follow the directions, it takes less than an hour to install, even with time to adjust it so it's perfectly centered and aligned so both sides latch easily when closing.

Basically its a piece of weatherstrip, 8 clamp bolts and 4 bolts for the cover itself, then add a little weatherstripping at the back where it meets the tailgate. The hardest part is aligning it perfectly, but even if its off initially, its super-easy to readjust to align it once its installed.

We charged $45 to install a Truxedo LoPro and $25 to install a Truxport. A soft trifold installation was free. The most expensive install for us was Retrax at $150 because it took a couple of hours to do right.

There are videos all over YouTube with how to install bed cover instructions. It's a 30-40 minute task, even for mosr beginners, and local garages will do it for about $150.00 - give or take. Dealers are now a total ripoff with their $200/hr. labor rates. Find yourself a local garage with an honest owner and kiss your dealer good-bye.
