Incredibly Bad hesitation/Throttle response

Hey there! As the title says, in the last month or so my 23 Tremor has started to feel way more laggy than ever before. I just crossed 14k miles. Been going on since 13,500. I do my oil changes every 5k, I only use 93 in it, I do my best to take care of it.

The problem started manifesting more and more where I could literally put my foot to the floor, and for over an average of 5 seconds, the revs will barely climb. They do eventually start to ease up and then around 4k it seems the whole car decides to wake up and go. Same with downshifts now, it seems to take an enormous amount of throttle to downshift as before. So, hopped in my Dad's 24' FX4 to see how his felt. It felt so much more peppy and accelerates like mine used to. Mine is already going to the shop on the 8th of this month to get recall work done. I have searched around but I am not seeing too much about the EB having a laggy throttle/languid throttle response.

Yes, I know there is turbo lag, I've had tons of 2.0T vehicles this...this is not just lag whatever this is. Transmission issue/pulling boost maybe? Throttle pedal needing recalibrated? Throttle body maybe? I will post back here after the trip to the dealer but...yeah. Hopefully if someone else has this issue, this will help them in the future!

Perks of having so many gears in transmissions mapped for economy on a turbo vehicle... /s

Mines also gotten noticeably worse recently and shifting aggressively in lower gears. It's always hunted like Elmer Fudd and taken it's sweet time unless it's in Sport mode, but it's definitely gotten worse and I can often feel it hunting for that "OD" gear too. Damn thing just can't make up it's mind and it's clearly not happy about something.

Look forward to seeing what they find for you because I'm about to take mine in also. TBH, the transmission and turbo lag will be the main reason I get rid of this vehicle when I do. I know there are some die hard turbo boi's on this forum, and it's awesome, but all I notice is turbo lag and gear hunting.

Love the truck but I've never been a fan of the EB or the 8F35's in these trucks. I tried buying the warranty as a way to force me into keeping the truck but if this is normal behavior, I can honestly say that after 1 year with it, there is no way it will make it beyond year 3 with me. Bought mine used with one year of ownership already on it and was hoping to make it to at least 5 or 6 years into it before I considered other options given the markets volatility. But now I'm looking forward to Hybrid eCVT AWD options in the future and I refuse to buy a first year model (or the first 3 years for that matter) ever again, despite how I feel about the remodels front end. I only ever wanted AWD and efficiency. Having experienced the eCVT in a previous Escape AWD Hybrid as well as the 2.5, I can definitely say I prefer it. Then again, I've never driven a non 4k version of our AWD EB's and according to folks on previous threads, they seem to not have these issues as much. So I wonder if it's just shitty tuning. I mean, I know it's shitty tuning, but is it JUST shitty tuning...

I know a tune in my Tacoma was night and day, but I also didn't have issues with it when it was stock and it was only tuned to accommodate new gearing and a lift. I'm not sold that a remap of shift points or a tune will solve what we are experiencing. I should probably end this by adding that I don't think transmission issues are common, but this is not unheard of on this forum either.

You have a fault that is not quite bad enough to pull a code. Take it to a different dealer, who actually knows what they are doing. I'd bet that you have a faulty spray pattern on one of the injectors.

I would say injector can be a cause or possibly the bypass valve in the charge tube , these have been known to glitchy and sometimes or sometimes not create a low boost fault when they leak . Causing issues like you describe.

As a longtime automotive industry veteran and several-time supplier to Ford, I'm extremely pleased to see your participation in our forum. Great way to keep a finger on the pulse of customer concerns, potentially preempting warranty and recall issues.

Like the OP, mine has begun to exhibit stumbling and hesitation at lower revs, especially when cold. I've got a '24 Ecoboost FX4 4K with roughly 5,500 miles on it and have been running 93-octane fuel since new (for the past few months from Costco). I'm scheduling for the first dealer visit and oil change.

Valve timing issue, perhaps? Or transmission doesn't want to downshift as readily as it should. Keeping in the taller gears helps economy, but at the expense of performance.

Let the dealer sort it out. Even without error codes, the symptoms speak for themselves.

Mine does the exact same thing when I’m driving in aggro mode and try to shut people out of gaps in traffic. Constantly hunting for gears as a slap the throttle open and closed while tailgating as close as possible.
But if I’m out in a rural area and there is no one to cut off in traffic, I just put it on cruise control and it never hunts for gears, even going over mountain passes.

I think OP is on the right track with his theories, though it is odd that no codes are being thrown. I will probably do an LMS tune by the end of the year and will try to document that well for anyone still on the fence. I am most looking forward to a little more fortitude in the shifting department, but will take any power I can find too.

Yes, when I act like an A-hole, my Maverick is constantly hunting for gears. When I drive normal, my Maverick acts normal.

Also, the FORD thing here is a joke. They want your info and they will only look up a dealer closest to you then refer you to them. Agreed, it's better than nothing for unsuspecting victims... I mean... customers, but it's 100% data collection based.

Let us know what they find. I'll sub this thread for an update and probably start my own with my issues.
