Ordered my Area 51 Lariat FX4 last October. Got a VIN number a few months ago and then have been waiting and waiting. I was told there was a shortage of shipping trucks. Picked up the truck last Sunday, 11 months after ordering. Had I known at the beginning it would be this long, I would have bought something else.

Getting a vin is such a stress reliever if you really want the vehicle. Most of us do. Just so you know, there is a build week which can be moved and often does. When you get your build date, it should be built very soon after that date. That's when you can see the window sticker on Ford.com after you set up an account. Just letting you know so it doesn't throw you off if they move the build week.
I had my first build week in May 2022, & from there I had 16 push backs to finally having a Build date of 8/30/22 & presently in Nogales, AZ awaiting a rail car I assume? Ordered my Hybrid First Edition 7/26/21. So be prepared, I don't think you'll experience what I did, hopefully not.

Let me point out that I put tool-up phrase in parentheses. But, there is a stop in production between model years. Your correct in saying that there is no actual tooling change that I can see, but there are production changes (cruise control, paint colors, resetting of tools, wiring harness changes on some models, instructional installation techniques yada, yada) The new Tremor is an example. All this minutia does not happen during a shift change. I was told this from the production manager from McCarthur Ford. I have no reason to believe otherwise. I was also told 1 week, but that may also be a guesstimate.
All this minutia does happen during a shift change. Possibly during a shift.
They currently run the Bronco Sport and the Maverick, all trim levels, on the same line at the same time in no obvious order. No change overs. One right after the other.

The Kia plant runs the Telluride, Sorento, and the K5 (Optima replacement), all trim levels, at the same time on the same line.

This is common practice in modern automotive assembly plants. A stop in production is only required when there is a new model added or a major refresh to an existing model.

Yep. Really, all that's changing is that they'll start getting some new components to complete the new packages. Much of that is stuff where they already pick the appropriate part from the lineup and install them interchangeably, e.g. the Black Appearance Package seats instead of the standard ones. Tremor's upgrades will likely be largely shared with Bronco Sport Badlands, e.g. the Advanced 4WD setup. The paint shop will need to be switched over to the new colors, but even that's not a terribly complex affair.

That pretty much matches my experience. I did receive a confirmation email that my order was received, and then there was zero information from Ford after that.

I called the Ford Marketing 800 number on 9/12 to see if they had scheduled a build or assigned a VIN. They had not and said I'd need to convert my order to a 2023. I contacted my dealer on 9/13 and was told they'd get it converted by that Friday, 9/16.

Then, I got a call from my salesman on Thursday, 9/15, and he said my 2022 was assigned a build week of 11/7.

Almost my story exactly. I called my dealer 9/15 morning and was told I wasn't scheduled.
I went in that afternoon and ordered the 2023.
I asked him to confirm my "private offer" and he came back and told me that I was scheduled for the week of 10/3. He gave me the VIN

Ford won't switch production to 2023 models until November when they will close production for 1 week to "tool-up" for 2023 models.
I think that there's a chance the '23/'22 change might by delayed too as Ford tries to produce all the leftover '22s (like mine) before they start the '23s. I'm scheduled for the first week of November if everything goes perfect.

Very possible. And I'm no lawyer but I don't think that there is a rule or law that says that they can't start building low constraint 2023's while they continue building out the 2022's with VINs already assigned.

So I called Ford today to check on my build week. It was October 24th last week. When I called today they told me it was in production.Didn't expect that! I was able to go to Ford.com and could see it was indeed in producton a month earlier than they told me last week. It's funny, I expected the opposite, but it was a great surprise. Anything can happen apparently.

Yeah, they can do anything they want. It's a balancing act and would round out a crazy year.
I will get my Maverick, sit in it and give a big sigh.

Having worked in auto/truck plants for over 30yrs and experienced over 30 year to year model changes I see no need for a week shutdown for the minor changes in this 23 model. More likely there will be an aprox 3 job gap in the line to give stock workers time to change out 22 model stock. What little there is to change might even make it possible to build a mix of both years but I would doubt that since they also have Bronco and now Tremor complexity in the mix.
A week down? If it happens, likely for lack of parts if anything. In an auto plant downtime is measured in thousand of dollars per minute.
Only significant changes seem to be Tremor related and if my experience holds true they've already built a number of "zero series Tremors" for a variety of press, production and engineering trial needs down the existing lines.
