I started hearing the sirens yesterday

Yesterday, I was making lots of short, slow trips between stops, so I was using electric half the time. I noticed I kept hearing a siren in the distance, but never saw a vehicle. I finally figured out it was me and my electric motor. I did have the radio off, so it's probably been doing that forever. Not loud, just noticeable. Makes me look around every time, lol.

I hear it when the radio is off and I’m at lower speeds. Didn’t hear it until the last month or so, but yeah I thought it was a siren in the distance the first time I noticed it…

That can be turned off in forscan. Discovered it when I was in there for my EB

At idle the generator is spinning at ~5000 RPM. What you are hearing is it rapidly decrease from that speed. At times it even passes through zero and spins the opposite way too!

The "siren" is a very faint, high frequency electronic whine that decreases in pitch as you accelerate. It is most pronounced from a standing start when the combustion engine is already running in my experience.

Why would a fire truck or ambulance catch me? Here in the city those are always zipping around so I try to keep a watch out for them.

Just your subconscious knowing you did something wrong pointing out to you that a faint siren sound is heard and giving you flight opportunity. In your case your subconscious is letting you know that a sound of what you are looking for might be approaching.
