On the bright side, running over a ladder is better that hitting a sofa, refrigerator, or recliner. And yes, I’ve seen those on the xway over the years.
Not only that, but it’s seven years good luck… or something like that.

So, I’m a first time truck owner and I’ve been reading a lot about how to use a tie down on a truck bed. With the Maverick becoming so popular and attracting first time truck buyers, I hope people will at least learn how to secure items on their truck bed.

OP, I used to drive down to Portland a lot for work passing by the Tacoma area. For some reason, I’m always extra cautious when passing by the Tacoma dome. Seems like everyone is in a hurry in that freeway area.

An acquaintance attempted to miss a large doghouse lying in the middle lane of a freeway when in heavy traffic. The resulting crashes killed him and one other. The police never identified the vehicle that lost the doghouse.

I have hit several articles in the road over the last few decades and many times it is just too late to avoid without causing a major wreck or hitting other cars. Once in NJ on route 17 Paramus a full piece of 8x4 plywood fell off a truck ahead of me several cars and the wind pushed it directly into the front of my car. I was going 55-60 and it stuck to my bumper and grillwork totally blocking any front view. I was in the mddle of a 3 lane highway. I had to look to the sides and use my mirrors to get off the road with everyone honking at me as if it was my fault. I made it to the side of the road without an accident but it wasn't easy with NJ drivers! I still had to pry the wood off even after stopping. On the Mass turnpike in the middle of the night a tractor trailer lost a wheel. It was in the middle of a lane and I could not even see it until it was a few yards in front of me. I had a older Sable very low to the ground. We hit the tire, the car shook and it raised the car up few inches going over it. We were very lucky the car did not launch 10 feet into the air as shown on some videos when the tire catches and starts to flip up. When I put the car on ramps I could see that the tire had left scraping marks all along the cars bottom in the center. The only reason the tire never grabbed onto something was because the Sable ahd thick plastic panels just about the full length of the car which made the underneath almost completely flat from the front to the back.

If possible, stay clear from any vehicle with ladders on it. As a contractor, lost count of all the ladders i've seen on other contractors' vehicles secured by nothing more than a bungee cord

Well the biggest issue I see here is that you think it’s a fast lane not a passing lane. 😔

Well, I think your biggest issue is that you apparently think that traffic laws are the same all across the country. Out here in the west, they are called “fast” lanes, not “passing” lanes, and you don’t need to exit them unless someone is coming up behind you, wanting to go even faster than you are. But if no one does, you can just squat in that “fast” lane and stay there as long as you want to.

I wasn’t staying law. Every state has it as a passing lane but some it’s not law to move over. No matter how fast you are going no reason to be in it unless passing. Same as autobahn. LA it’s not law that its passing but it’s still considered a passing lane. Laws don’t make the terminology.
If you think it’s a fast lane you are also the problem.

Just because it’s not against the law doesn’t make it ok.
You’re still a nut sac for doing it. And even out west it’s referred to as a passing lane. Even if no law requires you to be passing.
The speed limit is the same for both lanes so no state I could find called it a fast lane. So I guess you’re wrong and my problem is not my problem. The only problem now is he called it a pass g lane and so did you.
Too bad I could not charge for the education I have given today.

All very important feedback to have been provided on a thread that is 2.5 months since the last response. Way to go all.
Doesn’t matter driving in the wrong lane will still be frowned upon months down the road.

That is more common then we know of. Our son who lives in FL tells us his commute to a from work on I95 repeatedly has ladders falling off the vehicle or trailer. That’s why they run TV spots about drivers facing finds for not securing your loads.

I had two "run over" incidences:

1) Was coming back from Tarrytown, NY across the Tappan Zee Bridge (before it was renamed Governor Douchebag Bridge) on my way back to college, and someone lost a mattress which took flight and landed on the roof/window of a car about 20 car lengths ahead of me before coming to rest in the far left lane and WHAM!! Ran right over it - no room to go around. No damage.

2) Was driving on Interstate 95 toward Jacksonville and hit a "road gator" (tire tread) that whapped the underside of my car for a bit before coming out the back in and smacking my bumper, leaving a huge crack in the dead center of it.

Just for everybodies info, in Pennsylvnia it is againt the law to stay out in the passing lane for over a mile unless you are passing someone. in reality you probably won't get stopped for it unless you are stopped for another reason, then it would be tacked onto the ticket.
