The inside door handles let the door slip out of your hand if the wind is blowing from the rear, you have to pull the lever and grab the handle with the other hand to prevent the wind from blowing the door open in a parking lot. It would have been better to have the door release by the door handle.

It is not a design problem as the Maverick release is like so many cars that have been made for lots of years.

Maybe on days you know it is windy, you grab the door handle with you left hand and then reach over with your right and pull the door release lever. Then you will have total control over the wind. I just tried it... easy peezy.

Also you might not realize just how far you open the door when you are pulling on the release handle and opening it more than what is needed to fully release the door thus giving it more surface to be caught by the wind.

OP would have had a heck of a time in the 1970s.

Except in the 70’s those doors were so heavy it took a hurricane to blow the door open. 🤣😂😁

For me, I’m used to having a hole in the arm rest to grab onto when it is windy; and with the Maverick, it is odd to have so little to grab and hang onto. Guess it’s down to getting used to it.

On the subject of doors, so far I have yet to put a water bottle in any of the doors of my Maverick. The water bottle pocket is very over-rated in my opinion. I’d rather have a pocket in each door for things like a small umbrella, a wallet, a pair of gloves, a flashlight…. You know, the stuff we all have in our cars. Ideal solution? To me, go ahead and put the water bottles in the rear doors, and put a pocket in the front doors. Much more useful.

The front doors have a pocket, it's just out of sight. I can reach deep to the left of the bottle holder, so if I wanted to put something longer across the bottom of the door (like an umbrella), it will fit.

Quick Edit: I agree on the water bottle holder being overrated. Cup holders in the center console work fine, especially since they sit low
