What about putting a gas strut shock absorber thingy in your door kind of like the one you can add to the tailgate to prevent slamming the tailgate?! Might be a challenge to mount. Maybe go even more simply, add a spring? Or instead of strap bungee cord?

Except in the 70’s those doors were so heavy it took a hurricane to blow the door open.

But when it did, that door could total another car

The inside door handles let the door slip out of your hand if the wind is blowing from the rear, you have to pull the lever and grab the handle with the other hand to prevent the wind from blowing the door open in a parking lot. It would have been better to have the door release by the door handle.

I noticed that right away. The open part should be towards the back, not the front. It's backwards.
