So.

I ordered my Maverick in September 2022. I’ve only made two changes to it since ordering. I added Lux and co-pilot, and the offer they had with the spray in bed liner with the rails. First change i did was back in November and the last change whenever they had that deal going.

Last month i got a call from my dealer saying my Maverick was scheduled. But I didn’t have any emails so I spoke with ford online and they gave me the vin number. So i looked it up and the car it showed was not mine.
I had my dealer guy investigate. He said there was a mistake on the system and when this person ordered in November, my code was given to them and i was assigned a new code. This also lowered my priority from 10 to 14 (which dealer says they cannot fix and ford says only dealer can fix it). So they said they would cancel the order of that person as they had in fact skipped. Supposedly they did and let the person know but their maverick got built anyway. Which i let them know and they said that if the original customer didn’t want it, that i could probably purchase it. He says it would be market price still. But I doubt that person wouldn’t want their maverick and mine continues to be clean-unscheduled priority 14. I complained to ford because if it was a system error, it’s on them and they should at the very least, up my priority code. But the only option they gave me was to report or place a complaint against my dealer.

Any thoughts on this?

I’m glad that this person gets their truck next month but I am upset that I got skipped for no reason. Their truck has all the constraints on top of everything i got on mine.

also, is it true that order codes are for a group of people as opposed to individualized per customer?

If a VIN were issued, it should have been sent to you in an email. Sounds like this is a major mess up all the way around. Ford is right, it is the dealer who sets the priority codes, not Ford. When I made a color change to mine in January, it somehow got moved from a 10 to a 14, so I called t he dealer and they fixed it on the spot, so they can do it. Mine got built 3 weeks later.

Sounds like your dealer reused your order code for a 2023 before the did the roll over reorder of the 2022. They were warned about this possibly during the process. Some dealerships use order codes that reset each model year. Say mark01, mark02, etc. And you had mark06 in 22 with someone else having mark06 dated before yours in 2023.
Edit to add: in all likelihood your private offer was tied to his truck and will not be available when yours comes in.

My dealer changed my order number. My private offer was not affected because it is tied to the covp. The private offer should still be in your name

What a mess. I find it super annoying that the customer has to continually educate their dealerships about Ford products and procedures. This is their chosen career. If they can't manage something as simple as reading a Ford memo, its time for them to move on.

Well in all fairness with around 10,000 dealerships globally a few are bound to slip through the cracks and make mistakes. Mistakes happen all the time in a business setting. No dealership is 100% perfect all the time every time.

Just remember you're on the internet. Most people come here to complain not give praise that is why issues like this "seem to happen all the time" but the truth is they don't.

Sounds suspect to me. Fords whole ordering process baffles me. They take more orders than they can fill. If the new purchasing model is "ordering vehicles" they need to make changes. Remove the middle man (Dealer) or at the very least make the allocations transparent so consumers don't waste their time. The current system is broken.

I do hope they do that at some point. (Remove the dealer as middle man). Whenever i’ve had questions, it’s ping pong game of, no that’s on the dealer or no that’s on ford itself.

I’m gonna call them about the priority code. They must at least be able to do that. He had told me before that priority codes are per dealer and that there was no point in changing it back to 10 because there’s no one ahead of me (like no one is 10,11,12, or 13). But i would still feel slightly better if they changed it back to 10. Did they have to do that with the dealer manager or is that the salesman that can do that? How was the process of your changing back to 10 once you called?

Amazing how people don't research major purchases. Ford can not remove dealers. Each state has franchise laws that protect the dealers. Car manufaturers have little control over dealers. Blame your legislators and dealer association campaign money.
Ford didn't know how many orders to take in September and dealers were not told how many allocations they would get. Some customers are to blame for that. People not canceling their orders when they bought something else, some ordering from multiple dealers and then only taking the first one built, ghost orders. That's why dealers need to take large non-refundable deposits to ensure real orders only are taken. Then Ford will know how many real orders there are.
And how do you fairly make sure dealers get a share or orders without dealer and regional allocations?

Took about 1 minute. Sales manager just hit a couple of buttons and printed out a new buyer order showing the order number and priority code. I still cannot wrap my mind around how a vin number was issued to you, but went to someone else. That just is mind boggling.

That is not what happened.

Just an update.

After this whole mess, my order stopped giving ford any results back on my maverick. Two weeks were spent between calls with ford, my dealer, their GM, the district manager and some inventory dude. My order was found on the second week and i was told it only needed me to drop the incentive they had given for the cargo management to get built so i said go ahead and drop it. Two days later no answers from anyone. Call ford, still no information. So i finally get a call from the dealership last Friday.

After all this waiting, my maverick order was cancelled due to “a change that i made two weeks ago” so they could never do anything else or drop the cargo management thing. I know I hadn’t done any changes so i told them to tell me what change i made. They could not say. I headed over there because the general manager seemed to hide any time i wanted to speak with him. He apologized and said that the first hybrid that comes in that the owner no longer wants would be mine and at any point i could get my security deposit back. Even still, he wasn’t sure if the order was actually officially cancelled. He said the dealers system and ford’s system don’t talk so he had a lot of orders cancelled for no reason so they’re still trying to figure out what happened and if it was cancelled, why?

After all this BS.. i’m okay without a maverick and getting my money back. As i’ve read here, having one and god forbid something breaks it’ll be the same headache. Or recalls, etc.

I went to a toyota and for slightly more than my mav would’ve been, i got a brand new rav4 with all bells and whistles i couldn’t really afford on the maverick. Sucks that it’s not my Barbie truck i wanted but. I’m done with Ford and all this mess.
