OK, question here. We have owned a prius for over 10 years and have no problems with a hybrid.
My question from reading the reply's here is can you modify the gas part of the Maverick to improve MPG and or performance? or will that not work because of the way the hybrid system works. I've seen another tread talking about opening up the intake on the 2.0 and gaining 20hp which makes since to me and I don't see how there shouldn't be a way to do the same here. Not saying we will see the same improvement, just wondering if its a possibility.

I chuckled at this. I've been told that by people as well, to look him up. I did.. and I find the videos unwatchable. Ick.

You cannot compare the direct-injected, turbo I4 to the port-injected, naturally aspirated, Atkinson-cycle hybrid engine.

The Maverick has almost 200hp and over 40mpg in the city. This is excellent engineering. Just be happy.

I'm not complaining and very happy with the Mav I ordered and at this time have no plans to do anything performance wise to mine. Just wondering how it works and if its possible to do. I know many new gas cars and trucks can have small adjustments done to improve performance and MPG.

Have you considered bagging the truck? Lowering for highway driving and then raise it back up for normal or winter driving.
Match that with some good LRR tires you might yield better results than tinkering with the intake/exhaust. This just conjecture though as I’ve never owned an atkinson powered vehicle before.
Bagging will cost more than an I take and exhaust

Hot-rodding today is not hot-rodding 10-20-30-40-50 years ago.

A hybrid is not a hot rod and never will be, at least in the configuration that is being built now.

If you want performance and economy, the Mustang Mach-E is the way to go.

Anyone who tries to modify a hybrid for performance will be disappointed in the end.

Sorry, someone stated they drove 50k a year.

I will defiantly switch to a K&N and a muffler for the right sound. I need to study when the engine and motor work with each other. Anyone know where to find that info in fine detail. I’m sure someone can make a dual tune setup for 87 that’s similar to stock or switch on the fly to 91/93 octane tune for a little boost in power and maybe combine both power plants to run together more often for more power.
This is the best video for understanding the ICE-motor interaction. But unless you have a team of hackers and programmers in your garage I don’t anticipate you’ll be able to improve the coordination of these systems unless Ford made it easy for us to tweak on purpose.

Also be aware the ICE rpm is not linear with your speed or ypur foot on the accelerator. It’s gonna jump all over the place for all kinds of reasons, totally controlled by a computer for efficiency for given load and coordination with generator motor in the planetary gearset “power split” at the heart of the “eCVT” transaxle.

In my dumb opinion, I think trying to get a “sound” out of a hybrid exhaust is 🤡

That’s true, I’m just skeptical you'll yield gains with this platform. I could be 100% wrong.

Thanks man I’ll watch this. It’s funny I’m never happy with the stock sound of a engine. I like almost everyone have not even heard the sound of the hybrid Maverick but I have a Fusion hybrid and It could use some help. Cars are all about sound, like a Harley bike. That’s why a lot of people don’t like full electric cars, it’s the sound that is missing. It’s like they don’t have a soul. Anyway a truck should sound like a truck not a sewing machine.
After watching this video the engine is on and off all over the place. So you right if you change the sound to loud it will be way to obvious when the engine kicks on and off. If you changed it at all it would have to be really quiet.

Welcome to the soulless future 🥺 Well maybe not. A lot of people would say a Tesla has it’s own kind of soul and identity. I think the Lightning might also be part of this new age of vehicle identity. The new power and features of the technology is very appealing.

I was never blessed with the gospel of the pyschosexual automobile spirit (i.e wanting a really cool car) so I’m content with a vehicle being a tool of utility mostly, but like most people there’s some aspect of the appearance and visuals that “speak” to me or that I identify with (the Santa Cruz is not a style I identify with for whatever reason for example) so I can understand the sound also being a big part of that identity for a lot of people.

Like the Canoo is gonna be an amazing platform but it also has a very odd identity to me.
