How good is lane centering and adaptive cruise control?

If you remove your hands from the wheel it will drift slightly from side to side between the lines. Then it will warn to to put your hands back on the steering wheel.

Lane Centering does not do this in my Lariat Lux. It tracks true to the center. I can let go usually for 5-6 seconds before I get a warning. And it still doesn't bounce, it just disengages.

Are you referring to the Co-Pilot 360 Lane Keeping Aid? That's different than lane centering. It does act like you reference.

I have the Lariat Lux and had never had the ACC or Lane Center in a vehicle before this one. IMO they are both must have going forward. The Lane Centering in combination with ACC makes highway driving so much more relaxing. It’s not perfect and you have to stay attentive, but the ability to have an eye to eye conversation with someone or to access something in the car without worrying about leaving your lane or running over the car ahead is awesome.

For what it’s worth, that’s my 2cents worth.

^^ THIS ^^ One-hundred. Never going back. Now a must have. I have had ACC in several vehicles, but coupled with Lane Centering is so much better. I commute with it every day. Rural roads, County Roads, State Highways, Interstates. It's great!

I have Lane Centering on my Honda CR-V. I regularly drive between Salt Lake City and Las Vegas on I-15. Land Centering CANNOT keep the vehicle within its lane on the I-15 through the Virgin River Gorge across the northwest corner of AZ. Rely on it there and you will soon be off the road and in the river. Only manual steering can keep the vehicle in its lane there. Nor can it be relied on in 2 lane mountain roads.
(And I am referring the Lane Centering feature like on the Lariat Lux, and NOT the Lane Departure Warning like on the CoPilot 360).

Is the Ford version of lane centering any different or better/worse than the Honda version? Is it an off the shelf system that all car OEM's just add to their cars?

I have three Fords and one Honda with ACC. Ford hit it out of the park. The ACC on my Honda Pilot is terrible. Whereas the Ford ACC allows you to smoothly signal and change lanes to pass with a subtle slow down and speed back up by the vehicle on its own, the Honda almost always slams on the brakes when I try to pass someone with ACC turned on.

My Chrysler Pacifica ACC slams on the brakes hard if someone changes lanes in front of me or turns off the road it basically comes to a stop because it can't find the car that just turned. The Maverick ACC slowly stops, slowly accelerates, it's pretty quick acting.. not much whiplash.

The lane centering is pretty cool, it'll take some turns fairly well. What I hate is how fast it turns itself off though, just a quick *ding* then you see cancelled in the dash, and it's off.

It's true that lane centering is not perfect. That sounds like a good example. I keep my hands on the wheel, except for a brief second or two (and only in ideal situations and straightish pathways). When it tugs gently an incorrect turn, I pull gently back.

It does not work well with higher speed tight turning or when the lane markers are not clearly visible. But it does excel at most of the high speed turn radiuses on modern interstates/divided highways. The slower the speed, the tighter the turn it can handle. It's trying to look ahead. It won't peer around the bend very far. If the ground in a turn is being covered too quickly that it doesn't have time to adjust with the shortened time as the lines around the corner come into view, it will disengage.

It's a very, very good assist. But it is not autonomous driving. Some places it does not do so well is very wide intersections where you lose your lane markers, also freeway merge lanes where the right line gap is very large for the exiting or merging lanes. Or when you cross an intersection, but the lanes on the other side are off center from where you left the lanes before the intersection. Sometimes it can get confused with sealed cracks that produce a lot of glare. But it does seem like it gets smarter with every use on roads/intersections I use every day.

But it doesn't act erratic and make wild turns in those situations. It will either just disengage with a chime warning and notification in the center cluster, or it will gently pull the wrong direction, maybe 3-5°. Which you just nudge back and all is well. We still must pay attention. No substitution for that, yet.

I love it. And it works way better than I expected. I can use it on 95% of the road surface on the 22 mile commute from my house to my office. And 99% of the 50 mile distance from my house to Downtown Seattle.

ACC is literally the sole reason I was forced to go for a Lariat over an XLT. I drive have an 84 mile round trip to work everyday with about 75% hwy and 25% cty. Ever since I got ACC in my Mazda6 there was no way I could go back with all the highway driving I do. The LKA on my current car isn't anything great but it is subtle enough not to be annoying and works well enough that it's given me beneficial warnings a handful of times. So it sounds like the Mav has something comparable which is very satisfying to know!

Just got back from a 200 mile drive. Highway and back roads. ACC and lane centering on the whole time. Worked very well. One time going around a 50 mph marked turn at 65 lane centering hit the yellow center line. I guess I can accept that.

ACC is great and I tried it going into a town and it slowed down to the speed of the vehicle ahead and eventually stopped by itself. The lane keep is great as long as there are lines on the road, if it has been "patched" with tar and the tar is on the white line it flashes another color (can't remember what color) and says disconnected or disengaged and it will pick back up. The "bad" about ACC is you can be lulled into driving behind somebody for a while until you notice your speed is low.
