I used bed mat only, thinking about any way to protect side wall paint.
Drop in bed liner.

If you can't get a bed liner and you're going to haul something that might be abrasive and will knock around a bit. You could find some cheap rugs/towels/carpet segments and use them as a buffer.

Otherwise bed liner obviously.

what kind of product?

Why, I don't know, sir! Really just thinking out loud. Far be it for me to inadvertently suggest that such a product might exist and be readily available at your local store! Insolence, even!

The thought of someone manufacturing something conveniently sold in, say, a spray can (impossible I know, but a man can dream) that you could use to, you know, line the bed and protect it from damage is inconceivable! If they had the temerity to call it "bed liner" it would really be too much. The authorities would have to be notified!

I'm thinking about hanging some mat or blanket to the side wall:LOL:

But it looks difficult to attach the mat or blanket firmly to the sidewall. Thinking.............
I've been thinking about a similar approach. The holes for the bed rails with some fender washers or super strut should work to attach marine grade carpet. It won't be as fitted as a bed rug, but I see that as an advantage to allow air circulation behind and dry quickly if it does get a bit wet.
I think the bolts needed are M6x25mm. Here is the marine carpet link.

I'm thinking of experimenting with clear Flex Seal spray for just the wheel hump area when I get my Maverick. Not heavy duty but some protection maybe?

I'm just a normal homeowner who does some landscaping and construction projects around the house, and I assume that most here are similar. That means that the bed needs protection that works and that I don't have to worry about. For those that suggest a bed rug - how does it stand up to work? Wet leaves stain concrete, is that carpet resistant to that? Or shoveling rocks & gravel in and out, hauling branches, a chainsaw that leaks gas/oil, a pitchfork for wood chips, etc? I think they look great, but how do they do for actual work? Personally, if a person has to worry about hurting it, it's not nearly as practical as some of the other more durable options.

I did the bed on a prior truck with roll-on Herculiner, and then used it in a spray can to later touch it up. It was nowhere near as durable as a plastic drop-in bedliner, or a professional spray-in liner. For example, it could be scraped and damaged by the tip of a shovel when unloading landscaping rock or gravel. Or dragging a piece of lumber with nails sticking out of it. And the sun faded it over time. This was 8 years ago, I wouldn't be surprised if they reformulated it to use a hardener like some of the others in order to make it tougher.

Of all the trucks I've owned, a thick plastic full-bed drop in liner has been the most durable by far. Not these thin ones that they can fold and send through the mail, but a big sucker you have to visit a truck shop to get. I've dropped concrete blocks in one instance (on accident) which didn't damage the DIBL but did dent the metal under it. Shovels and lumber with nails are no problem. It may get some superficial scratches and gouges, but it has been the best protection for the truck bed so far. Even got one for a prior truck used from a salvage yard for $40.

If you don't want to go the route of a good DIBL, I've read that Raptor Liner and other similar DIY coatings which you mix with a hardner as you apply are very durable, and I've seen it available at Walmart and local auto parts stores. Might be an option worth considering. Or, buy the thickest tarp you can find and then fold it and double it up for times where you need to haul abrasive stuff. And if you want it to stay put on the bed sides, get a few big honkin' magnets. The kind that pose a danger to fingers. This will work in a pinch, no pun intended.

I think the best way to quit worrying about using your truck bed is a BedRug. I've used them for the last 15 years and am very pleased also with the one I just installed in my 2024 Maverick XLT.
Except a Bedrug is almost the same price as a spray in liner....

$8.99 at Harbor Freight. Get two of them. Anything that needs to go in the back, wrap/cover with one of them. People overestimate how expensive moving blankets are.

Get yourself a cargo net. If you have the hooks at the bottom as well, you can easily lash something down with just the netting using the right carabiner clips in the right spots. I bought a net from Amazon cheaper than this that came with 30+ little carabiner clips.

Under $40 you have the best moving equipment available.
