Drop in or spray in bed liner makes most sense imo

I was going to sarcastically say, "Line-X." But honestly, that is my real answer. A bed liner would provide the best protection for a painted cargo area.

I'm thinking about hanging some mat or blanket to the side wall:LOL:

But it looks difficult to attach the mat or blanket firmly to the sidewall. Thinking.............

For the bottom of the bed and the tailgate I use a horse stall mat from Tractor Supply that I cut to size and it works great. I don't protect the sides because I usually don't put anything more than wheels and tires or bicycles in the bed. A tonneau cover works great for UV protection. For the sides you could cut some waterproof boat carpet to shape and attach it with Velcro so it's removable and easy to clean/dry out if it gets wet. Other than that it's just a matter of being careful when loading and unloading things. Having moving blankets on hand is a great way to wrap up large objects, and ALWAYS use ratchet straps to secure your load even if it's something small that fits under the tonneau.

Unless you're hauling something abrasive, nothing. Even a SIBL or DIBL will look beat up if you do.
The tailgate will take the brunt of normal wear then the bed bottom, protect them.
I've used moving blankets to protect cargo and by default the bed steel, thrown in a tarp to haul some topsoil. Secure your load so it doesn't slide around and you'll be good.
This is my sixth truck and no buyer has given the bed a second look.

If only there were an inexpensive DIY product you could buy at your local store that is specifically designed to protect the bed walls!

I think the best way to quit worrying about using your truck bed is a BedRug. I've used them for the last 15 years and am very pleased also with the one I just installed in my 2024 Maverick XLT.
