How are people using their bed racks?

Ended up finding a used Elevate Bed Rack and rails for a steal ($60!). Maverick not arriving until 2025, but it was too good to pass up. Not sure if I'll keep it or resell it yet.

I'm an avid DIY'er and I have a teardrop camper. Was thinking if I could make the elevate rack shorter I could get a cargo tray below or close to the roof line and still have enough room to roll up my hard cover. Double level storage for camping was my first idea.

How else are people using their bed racks?

Well I dont have the elevate rack set up BUT do use the elevate rails to make my own uprights and one rear cross bar. I have a tri fold hard cover that works with this.

I use my folding rack mostly for lumber, rebar, and assorted metal tubing. Long floppy items like rebar that extend over the cab need another support up there, but I've gotten by so far by just wrapping a towel around them to protect the paint. I have to remove the rear section to use the bike rack. I put the gussets on top to accommodate a custom folding tonneau when the rack is folded down.

I don’t have a bed rack yet but I have been seriously shopping them and have a similar question as you. Jealous on that deal you got on the Elevate by the way!

When it’s not being my DD, my Mav is my part time adventure mobile so the bed rack will likely facilitate that. Right now I am thinking I would outfit it with a Kammock Outpost hammock system for dispersed camping, kayak mount, and maybe a fly rod vault. Possibly an awning system too if I could make it fit. I’m torn on if I would want them on the rack full time or just install them when I plan to use them.

Here's my little home built "foamie" teardrop. Made mostly out of 2" XPS foam, covered in "poor man's fiberglass". Weighs next to nothing! 3 years going strong!!

Upgrading the wheels and tires this year for the arrival of my 2025, and a west coast camping trip!

There are so many things you can do with a bed rack, from hauling ladders, boats/boards, bikes, lumber, and more. Most used accessory I purchased for the Maverick by far.

I agree. The Maverick is a tool, all the better for racks. Especially with that short bed.
