I test drove 3 hybrids and one ecoboost. At least I didn’t notice it at the time. Maybe I was distracted.
They likely would have been noticeable in the Hybrid. The stereo, road noise, and distractions during the test drive may have made them harder to detect, especially if others were in the vehicle at the time. I'm not sure what options are available in your situation.

I’m going to see what the dealer says, then go from there. I may try disabling the external speaker with the buyable kit, or adding sound deadening

It’s quite normal. All EVs and hybrids produce some level of whine from the motors, high voltage converters, etc. While the noise can be noticeable in some cases, I usually don’t hear it unless I focus on it.
If it's the sound I'm thinking of, it happens at low-mid throttle, and is made by MOSFETs in the drive. I'm actually glad to hear it at all, because it means my 62 year old ears aren't failing yet (despite my best efforts at concerts in my college years).

I notice it most when slowing down at about 10 MPH with steering input in.

I thought it was funny when I got my Hybrid Escape too. It kinda grew on me. Like a ray of light shining down in a movie but in the form of MPG savings 🤣

Well, it’s totally coming from the power steering in my mind after my drive home. When the wheel is straight, no matter which mode, regen or not, accelerating or slowing down no noise. As soon as I turn at slow speeds it does it. The more stress on the system the worse it gets. @jerrisn @CD_SM @MaveRichard @Traegorn

Can you share a video of the noise?

I received my 2024 XL hybrid yesterday, and I found when braking and often times with the steering wheel turned, the truck produces a very, very high frequency sound. Almost an inaudible shrill pitch. Unfortunately, I’m very sensitive to high-pitched sounds, especially in the 20,000 Hz range (think doctor’s hearing test). I used a frequency analyzer and confirmed that this happens when in electric mode and when slowing down/accelerating at less than 5PM.

I really wanna love the truck, but every time I drive it through my neighborhood it gives me a headache from the pitch. My wife also hears it and it gives her a headache so at least I’m not alone lol.

I’m thinking either it’s from the electric steering rack, the external noise generator, or something to do with hybrid components.

I’m taking it into my local dealer tomorrow, but I’m worried that they’re just gonna blow me off if they don’t have somebody that can hear it.

Anybody experience this? I found a couple of people on the forum that posted something similar, but not necessarily the same. I’d really like to start loving my new truck 100%.
You state the noise is when braking and turning = when my hybrid was brand new, the regen braking made a high pitched sound. It took about 1500 miles of "breakin" until that sound subsided. Also, the electric motor makes a high pitched sound. That too subsided. Both sounds are most noticable after first start up and first stop.

I personally think it is a waste of time to take it to the dealer at this point.

The regen and electric motor sounds are different from the sound when running in electric mode. As other have written, that is mandated. My neighbor's Tesla makes a horrific noise.

I don't think the electric steering really produces a sound, at least not in my hybrid experience, 3,500 miles so far.

If it is any consolation, think of it as the sound of getting 42-45 mpg.

I have found that if I am running AC when it starts out in all electric mode upon starting, its has a moderately loud high pitched engine sound. I agree its irritating.

The sound a dog whistle makes falls in the range of 16,000 to 22,000 Hz.

It's the noise generator when you're running in electric mode and going under a certain speed, to alert pedestrians.
I'm a 67 yo male so unless I'm walking a dog, that wouldn't do me any good.

Is there any way to dampen this? I’ve seen a few posts of people adding sound ending to the doors/firewall/back wall/etc. Or just wait until my hearing starts to go with age. 😂 I’m a young high school band Director, so this shouldn’t take long.
