Coming back from Marquette today I had a vehicle that was following pretty close for about 5 miles, he was just short of tailgating. He must have finally figured me out and he passed me a flying and went out of sight. I was trying to figure out what it was with such a strange shiny grill arrangement but when he came along of side me a looking, bingo it was a Hyundai Santa Cruz. There is only about 4-5 Mavericks in the whole County up here. I think he was a little upset about a cheaper little truck than what he was driving. LOL

One thing I don't understand, how can the Santa Cruz tow 5,000lbs, and Maverick with tow package 4,000lbs.? Both unibody, approximately same size& weight, HP. Anyone know why?

It is determined by the vehicle manufacturer and takes into account the GVWR, GAWR, GTW and more. There is no industry or federally mandated standard. What makes it really difficult is that most automotive manufactures do not publicly publish this info.

I get tailgated a lot also, but I suspect that it is just drivers wanting to read the small "Hybrid" on my tailgate. Most of my tailgaters are pickup truck drivers. To respond to your other comment, I suspect that the MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE Santa Cruz, by Hyundai, is a better built vehicle than our Ford. I hope not; time will tell. My last two cars, only briefly owned , were Hyundais, and were quite well made. Like I said a year ago, when I joined this forum, my last Ford experience was my Dad's 1958 Edsel. So, I am hoping that a lot of water has gone under the bridge since 1958,

I think drivetrain and brakes figure into it, too. Whatever the weakest link is could be the limiting factor.

I had both Chevy and Ram 3/4 ton trucks, and towed the same camper with both. I'm usually a Mopar guy, but I have to admit, the Chevy did a better job towing our camper. Atleast using my "seat of the pants" meter.

Why they felt so different, I've no idea? The Chevy's tranny wasn''t continually hunting thru the gears, and there wasn't the ups and downs of rpm, which would wear on my nerves after a few hours, so maybe that was it?
