If this is due to an animal, it will not be under warranty.
Yeah, I wouldn’t expect mouse murder to be covered. Clean up the “debris” before calling ford.

A link to the thread has been sent to your local PETA chapter. I expect the protesters will be out in front of your house by morning,,,,,,

Unless you were wearing your foil hat when it happened or had your fuse removed from the telematics. Then you may be ok.

Yep animal for sure but was not a mouse. Mouse are soft wouldn’t even phase the belt. That was some larger animal. But yes super easy fix. Warranty maybe. Depends on how the dealer wants to look at it.
Either way it is what it is. Get it fixed and be glad it wasn’t a mechanical issues and just freak animal delete

I think that a mammal‘s remains would be more bloody red than the peanut butter color it appears.
Does it have a smell?
Or a taste?
Cover yourself, and clean as much as possible before dealer sees it.

First question is how many porcupines have you strangled....?
Yes, something got in there and forced the belt off its track. It should be an easy matter to unload the belt tensioner and put it back in place once the foreign object is removed. The belt -might- be damaged, but probably not.

I poked around in there as best I could, and didn’t find anything at all that looked like critter remains. I’m stumped.

Is the belt supposed to where I drew the arrow (before it then comes down to meet that threaded part below)?

The pulley that the smudge is on is the belt tensioner and rides on the smooth side of the belt as is depicted in the routing diagram posted. The belt should be sitting in the grooves that are in the pulley to the right of the smudged one. I'm not familiar with this vehicle, but usually putting a long wrench on the bolt that's in the center of the idler/tensioner will allow you to remove the tension from the belt and replace it or in this case put it back where it came from. Whatever got in thee way might well be resting in the under engine cover and will be found during the next oil change.

Here is a better pic. The outer belt is a stretch, one time use style belt and would need to be replaced if you remove it. Luckily from Ford it runs $8 and the inner belt runs $35. I definitely would not drive it without the belt, if you can't replace the belt, have it towed to a repair shop, not driven.

sounds like instead of running straight to the forum, you should have called your local ford dealer. its 4 months old, its under warranty.
Not if something got under the belt to derail it unless it was something from the factory.

Just an update:

So, Ford Roadside Assistance towed my Maverick from my house to the Dealership first thing in the morning on Monday, and the following day (Tuesday), diagnosed it as a faulty belt tensioner, they replaced the tensioner, the idler pulley, and both belts. 100% under warranty. Also got my turn signal recall taken care of. The only downside was that I wasn’t able to have the work done until today (Friday) because one of the parts wasn’t in stock so they had to wait for it. But I’ve got it back now and it drives like the dream that I remembered it to be. All in all, a positive experience and I’m hoping it was just a fluke issue. :)

Thanks for all the info on this issue. I had the same warning light turn on last week was finally able to get into the dealership. They said my battery was bad. Changed it and I’m still having the same issue. I do not have a misaligned belt though so I’m wonder if my battery was even bad now.
Tried calling the dealership back to get in there got the runaround. I went to O’Reillys. They did an alternator chat, everything seem to be running fine. I wonder if it could be the belt tensioner that’s throwing the signal for me.
