Texting and drug usage are the primary reasons for accidents.

No amount of vehicle lighting can overcome those habitually risky behaviors.

And “I didn’t see them” is just an excuse for “It’s not my fault”.

They are for when a vehicle goes in and out of shadows. Remember, not everyone is a well-trained, ever vigilant skilled driver like you.

NOTE To those that turn DRL off. More and more over 65 drivers are in the road every day. More are having to work in retirement and are covered by Medicare. Many of these are developing cataracts which happens slowly gradually impairing vision and a lot won't realize it until their one hour before sunset vision appears like one hour after sunset. That effectively makes oncoming vehicles almost invisible even at high noon on a cloudy day. Contrast has to get pretty low before Medicare will pay for cataract surgery and some have to wait as they cannot afford it otherwise.

I don't live where the sun never rises in winter, and it's perfectly legal to drive with them OFF here in the daytime, if it's not raining. So if I don't want my damned headlights (that cost $1700 each to replace) on in the daytime, I want a way to turn them off. And it's nobody's business but mine. Thanks Ford for giving me a choice.

They are turned on not for you to see but to be seen sooner. Perhaps you are the only vehicle in a group without DRL on and someone needs to avoid what they see and chooses to miss all the lights???

So let's replace a totaled Maverick so we don't have to replace one or two crappy headlights.

I'll be checking that out, I did turn the Auto high beam off the first week I had it.
It makes me wonder if it effects the lights coming on automatically at dusk

Auto off = driver has to turn lights on and off when desired

Then these people shouldn't be driving. They are legally blind.

You realize that these are LED bulbs, right? They have a projected life of 30-50,000 hours of running time. They may burn out in about 100 years or so.
Regarding the need for DRLs, I guess your eyesight must be much better than average. However, it has nothing to do with what you can see, but what other people can see. Its all about not blending into the background like so many vehicles do. Its also about showing where you are to the semi in front of you throwing rain spray everywhere.

The headlights are LED so unless you spend several hours a day every day driving they will probably outlast the truck.
