Has anyone downsized to a Maverick and finding the bed too small?

Actually I came to my ‘22 XLT hybrid from a 2013 Honda Fit and with appropriate measurements the Fit with the rear seats down has more cubic feet, I forget the numbers but I’ve used the limits in both and it’s clear. However, I’m getting too old for the thrill of nearly getting squeezed off the road by these school bus sized suvs using my lane driven by people who blithely ignore the center line. I like the visibility of the truck.
Another thing: you see the picture in the brochures of a “hack” to install a bike rack? Notice the pretty girl with the bike has the tailgate down? It’s down because your bike is longer than the length of the bed with the tailgate up. I haven’t finished my “hack” and I will use it for lack of any bike rack alternatives but I’d sure rather have a tailgate closed behind my bike.
Just so you don’t get misled by that picture while looking at the pretty girl…

Addendum: that cubic footage in the XLT is with the tonneau cover closed so both measurements are rain protected cubic feet. Sorry for not making that clear.

I have been waiting for decades to get a truck similar to my small Nissans. Not a contractor, so never had a need for a massive bed. Just one good enough to carry the family luggage or bikes on a trip.

Marketing departments furious at this One Weird Trick!! Coming from a Fit as well! It really was an amazing vehicle. But like you I was getting tired of falling into it and feeling pretty tiny on the road. As others have said if you need a 6' bed you probably already know. I had a last gen colorado super cab when I was younger and in the army. It was great for young guys and doing what we wanted. But now that I'm older, live in the suburbs, and about to maybe start a family I really don't need a truck like that. I'm into cycling, hiking, and only do light work. 6 months in and there's only been one time where I actually really needed a 6' bed in my life. I just called a relative and burrowed his truck.

I also used an ordinary 30 yo RhodeGear bike rack on the Fit, it never budged, always secure, there were places perfect for the clips. It’s useless on the truck unless I do some cutting into the liner to make spaces to place the hooks, and I’m not ready to do that yet. Plus my wife thinks it would look stupid to have a bike rack on a tail gate. But honey I’d still have the empty bed…🙄
When I was at your stage of life (kids, recreation, etc..), I had a Dodge Sport minivan with a v6 that was kick ass fast and it kept your cargo dry, but I’m not suggesting you get one…

I just used a sharp box cutter to cut holes in my bed mat for the hooks. Not as clean as if it came from the factory but oh well. I use the same hitch rack on my mav that was on the Fit. Still super useful since it frees up the bed for gear or more bikes. Keeping things dry is a big plus of something like a fit or a van. I have a tonneau that does a decent job of keeping things dry for me needs but it doesn't have the height. I might get a softopper in the future for more room when I need it.

I'm looking to place an order, and have checked the Maverick out in person a few times. The price is right, 4 door is great for the kids, maneuverability, MPG even with Ecoboost, but my biggest concern is that I'm compromising on the truck bed and will be annoyed by the size more often than not. I've previously swore I'd never go smaller than a 6' bed - but here we are.

As a background I have an older single cab F150 8' bed as a part time "work" truck, and a SUV but looking to downsize so I only have one vehicle for all my needs. Part of that work is event production (tables/chairs/tents/bins/ladders) and another is property maintenance/handyman work for a few properties - I do max out the 8' bed a few times a year, but if this is the case I can expense a rental vehicle- cost isn't out of my pocket but the inconvenience of the pickup/droppoff hits me. Right off the bat I plan on getting a bed rack for ladder/extra long materials, and have a Yakima Skybox already which while unorthodox, is good for locked up tool storage - this is the only way I can see the size possibly being suitable.

So has anyone else gone from part time full size pickup truck usage to a Maverick and found the compact size just too frustrating? Or do all of the pros outweigh the con.
The bed is only about a foot and half shorter. If you put down the tailgate that adds about a foot

I had a FX4 2013 F150, don’t miss it at all. If you really do need 6ft of bed, you can install a bed extender and Bob’s your uncle 😁

I bought my maverick off the truck I didn’t order it. It was a cancelled order and I bought it and tossed around the idea of selling my 09 platinum f150 but I tossed that idea right on out because I do farm work and I want to keep my Mav nice so I ended up keeping my f150 to tow heavier stuff and oddly shaped objects and stuff over 2500lbs so now my f150 is my farm/work truck

I have a buddy who's on a farm and was in the market for a new super duty. He's going to buy a stripper Super Duty for real work and lariat hybrid mav as a daily. Will end up being almost the same initial price as a high trim f150/superduty. Then when you start including savings in fuel and maintenance it's a no brainer.

I find the bed to be about a half a foot too short. I have collapsible extension ladder that I have to barely turn sideways but my 4 foot fiberglass ladder fits in tight. That’s really my only complaint with the whole vehicle. I’m going to get a nice looking topper when they are available with a rack to put them on

I currently have a 6' bed in my F-150 and it is *way* more space than I can actually use. I look forward to my bed being a foot and a half shorter if Ford ever gets around to building a Maverick for me.

I came from a 2016 Colorado short bed crew cab and I don't find it any more annoying than the Colorado. For the most part it does exactly what I need it to with minimal extra work on my part.

Frankly I have the same question. I can transport 12' lumber in my Chevy Cruze, but IDK how I'd do that in a Maverick without a trailer.
12' ladder strapped down with bed extender. I probably wouldn't go with anything longer.

Ford Maverick Has anyone downsized to a Maverick and finding the bed too small? ladder

My F-150 had a 6 foot bed, don't miss it.
If you need to use the bed a lot, I don't think this is the truck for you. With the tailgate down, it's getting things done, but not on a daily commitment. Great for things shorter then 4 feet long. I replaced my GMC extended cab Canyon, and Sonata with my Maverick, I used my truck very little, so I got a more useful vehicle with dual purpose. You'll be suprised at all the Maverick will do, but it will not replace a truck if that's what you need.

Planning to use Maverick as a ski vehicle. I think skis up to about 6' will fit diagonally in the bed.
