Has anyone downsized to a Maverick and finding the bed too small?

Only time I found the bed too short is when I went to place my solid shaft fishing pole in the bed and realized it was too long, but that only required me to fold the tonneau cover and let the pole hang slightly over the bed.
Problem was, I dd not feel comfortable leaving my $400 pole exposed in the bed while I wasn't around..
Maverick is a compromise in some cases, but well worth it IMHO.

This video helped me decide. Full sheets of drywall fit. That is about the biggest I would haul. He measured tailgate down = 6.5 feet.

I'm looking to place an order, and have checked the Maverick out in person a few times. The price is right, 4 door is great for the kids, maneuverability, MPG even with Ecoboost, but my biggest concern is that I'm compromising on the truck bed and will be annoyed by the size more often than not. I've previously swore I'd never go smaller than a 6' bed - but here we are.

As a background I have an older single cab F150 8' bed as a part time "work" truck, and a SUV but looking to downsize so I only have one vehicle for all my needs. Part of that work is event production (tables/chairs/tents/bins/ladders) and another is property maintenance/handyman work for a few properties - I do max out the 8' bed a few times a year, but if this is the case I can expense a rental vehicle- cost isn't out of my pocket but the inconvenience of the pickup/droppoff hits me. Right off the bat I plan on getting a bed rack for ladder/extra long materials, and have a Yakima Skybox already which while unorthodox, is good for locked up tool storage - this is the only way I can see the size possibly being suitable.

So has anyone else gone from part time full size pickup truck usage to a Maverick and found the compact size just too frustrating? Or do all of the pros outweigh the con.
The pros do outweigh. To keep your capability go and get a lightweight 4'x 8' trailer for those few times you really need the size. My light trailer tilts for loading the motorcycles, lawn tractor, ect. As a bonus you can move the trailer around like a wheelbarrow and bring the load right to door or whatever.

Big problem with the short bed is that you can't sleep in it. Looking for a special camper or topper I can modify. Ideas?

Exactly, I also happen to have the 4k tow package and load my 6 x 14 utility trailer for when I can't fit a load in the bed. I had the Maverick almost maxed out the other day with 3500 lbs of block in the trailer and about another 1000 lbs of block in the bed. It pulled like a champ, though the rear did want to sway it was easily correctable and I had no problem maintaining 55 - 60 MPH and got around 17 - 18 MPG.

Frankly I have the same question. I can transport 12' lumber in my Chevy Cruze, but IDK how I'd do that in a Maverick without a trailer.

I have experience with 8', 6.5', and the Maverick's 4'7" bed. Maverick is 6.5" with tailgate down. 8' flat loads only hang 1.5' off the back. Using the tailgate feature even less, depending. Point is, very few things a person interested in this size of truck might encounter are going to be a problem.

I've done box loads of hard wood, numerous loads of mulch (I live a mile away from the mulch yard), queen size mattress, snow blowers, lawn mowers, moving boxes, etc. with no problems. I also have the sliding rear window which allows me to fit long, but lightweight items like wood/vinyl trim, pvc pipe, or a fishing pole.

I have the 4K Tow Pkg so when I need to move really large/heavy things, I simply rent a trailer. When I'm done, I park my truck in my garage put the door down and go inside and have a beer.

I had a 6ft ranger years ago, and coming into a maverick... it's fine, for me?

I just angle 8-10ft boards from one corner to the other and ride the right or left edge of a lan if I need to. I have used the alternate position in the tailgate for some 10ft 2x4's and 2x6's, but they have a lot of flex and I couldn't get the ends strapped down into the truck tight enough to take that out for my liking.

I am nearing complete on a trailer restoration so that will probably be my go to for when i need anything over 8ft.

ALl said though, it's doable but I wouldn't push it past 10ft in anything, again, too much flexing of your material causes them to flap up and down, could work a strap loose and lose your haul entirely.

Just my opinion, take it or leave it :)

I would probably miss the extra couple feet if I still was managing my own rentals and doing all the renovations like I used to. Now that I have out sourced all that this truck is perfect for all the projects I do at home. Don't miss taking up 2 parking spots at all!

It's a pretty useful bed size. Once I opted to have something delivered rather than drive it home with the tailgate down (It was pouring rain). I do have to fetch a couple of things that may test my limits next month, if they fit then I will sing it's praises, lol.

Don’t do it! You will hate it. I base this on how you currently use your truck bed. I’ve owned trucks for 40+ years and went from a F150 to the maverick. I miss the F150 every time I go to Home Depot.
it’s not just the length, it’s also the width and depth. The bed extender is mostly useless. Extender in 150 folded up to the sides out of the way. In my Nissan Titan you could move it to the front of the bed by the cab to get it out of the way. In the maverick it’s just in the way unless you have it extended. Sometime I have to take it out to put 2 suitcases in the back. I have found you can put it in the back seat in emergencies, but what good is that.
we bought a lightweight trailer (5x10 at 700 lbs) and even empty it kills the mpg.
I’m thinking of buying a 70’s F100 just for Home Depot runs… plus I like that old style.
all said… what’s the real risk. You’ll hate it and sell it for what you paid or you’ll tolerate it. I doubt you’ll love it

I totally understand your concerns .
I had a 2020 F150 crew 5.5 bed with 20” tires.
We sold our house with a xl garage ( retired ) and bought one in a 55 & Better neighborhood. The truck and my wife’s car fit but that was it. So, I searched for a Maverick (February) and found one.
I have never looked back !
the 1st thing I noticed is that you can put down the tailgate and actually just sit on it ,like we used to do on all trucks My F150 required a jump on and off !
The 2nd thing is that if something is in the middle of the bed I can just reach in and get it without a step stool.
My other truck had a 5 1/2 ‘ bed and my Maverick is 4’ 5” and it is smaller but ALL of it is accessable . 95% of the time I didn’t need a big truck , I just thought I did.
If your still concerned get a tow package and a $19.99 per day U haul trailer when you need it. You will be $$$$ ahead.
Also, the Maverick is all out fun to drive after years in a F150 and much more economical when you think of just gas and tires.
I have space in the garage , and I will never sell my Maverick.
Hope this helps. Thanks
