Half shaft replacement question (recall 25N09)

I recently scheduled my trailer brake module reprogramming recall (26C10) service at the local dealer. The service manager told me I'm also eligible to get my front half shafts replaced under recall 25N09. I have never received any info on this. I know of the issues, but I have an unmolested suspension on a 2022 Lariat EB AWD 4K built in July of 2022. I have almost 80k with no issues in the driveline. I have had my fair share of CV joint issues on other vehicles. I know what to look and listen for.

So my question is: If they're offering do I do it?

I know I'd be getting 80k newer, supposedly better shafts, but then there's the old adage: Don't fix what isn't broken.

Always take the freebie upgrades.

Confirm the date and mileage that you are good until. 10 yr / 150K.
Use it closer to the max.
You won't see a benefit now.

Check your VIN on Ford's site - just in case yours was too early and already got the special shafts.

If your NOT having any CV fault issues, let it be, why waist an extended warranty on something that's not an issue! Hold on to your extended CV axle warranty and use it only if you start having CV fault issues or until it gets close to the end of 10 year 150K mile warranty that 25N09 covers since it's only a 1 time replacement coverage, NOT multiple replacements in that 10/150 coverage. Theirs folks on this forum that have had theirs replace more than once with lower miles than you currently have.

I believe that the 150k mi warranty is only valid if the truck is EXHIBITING the symptoms of approaching failure. If not, they may not do it.
If you let it go, and no symptoms develop, and you reach the time/mileage cutoff, you may not have the same attitude from the then-service manager.
A week/100 mi later, the problem rears its ugly head, you’ll be SOL.
Delay as long as you dare. But not beyond that manager’s employment.

I agree, I wouldn't think Ford is going to replace much of anything if it's not broken/causing the issues/symptoms. I think the dealer techs have to return many of the defective parts to Ford for review so I don't think any dealer is going to just put new ones on when there's nothing wrong with the existing ones.

After more thought I'm inclined to wait. On top of your recommendations, I also don't trust dealership work/skill/knowledge or basically giving a crap. Particularly with warranty work. The multiple times some have had to get this fixed attests to that. It can't all be faulty parts.

We'll see how I feel next Thursday when I show up for the trailering recall.....

I would get it done. I have 22 XLT with early build date in Oct ‘21 that precedes the Dec ‘21 start of the program window. So far no one can figure out why these early builds are excluded from the program. If they offered me a replacement even though my truck is exhibiting no current issues, I will still get it done.

That’s my take but I understand your hesitation based on the different variables at play.

This is a reason why I think dealerships are shady. Last October they replaced my 3 year old battery under the recall. My battery tested fine but replaced it anyway. Money for them from Ford. I'll take it, but the half-shafts are a different animal, requiring careful installation and wheel re-allignment.

You never received any info on this because it's a CSP, not a recall. A CSP is just a manufacturer extended repair coverage related to a specific component/fault if it occurs and doesn't have the compulsory notification requirements of a federal safety recall.

Any chance you feel like getting a good stretch on the ground?

And while you are down there - getting a picture of the labels on your half-shafts?

Maybe that has been done elsewhere and it's known they are different versions than what came later. Just not seen the posts online during last search few months ago.

My guess is initial inventory for builds used versions they figured were way over built for the truck and price point desired.
So when the vendor with the actual lowest bid supplied inventory - change time!

Yeah, mine seems to be built before the CSP ones. I acquired mine on 11/21...
