Love my 2024 XL Maverick. I like to have my songs on the USB and play them over long/short drives. I just can't stand the sound from the factory speakers. Any recommendations on what some of you have replaced your default speakers with? Is it even worth upgrading the sound in the XL trim?

I have a 2023 XL Hybrid and recently replaced the front door speakers with Infinity REF-6532 IX and the rear's with Infinity REF6432 CFX. They were recommended by some members and they sound great. Well worth it.

I took some other members recommendations and got a Puzu PZ- C7 amp and a Rockville RW8CA powered sub. I have not installed them yet but expect I will be pleased with the sound.

There are a lot of threads about what others have done. Do a search of speaker upgrades.

Many recommend Crutchfield as a source for advice and anything you need.

Good luck!

Can you just replace the front door speakers or do you have to do all four?

I replaced door and rear speakers with Kicker CS series speakers and a HS8 sub under the rear seat. Made a massive difference, particularly the subwoofer.

New speakers will make a HUGE difference! I like my Infinity door speakers, but I have Polk speakers in the back because that's all they had that would fit. Clarity and detail are WAAAY better, and you can even tell a big difference in the weight of the old and new speakers. Do it!! You'll be glad you did.

If you're referring to the dash tweeters: you don't HAVE to replace them. Car audio purists would say you want to at least disconnect them, as you presumably will now have a coaxial speaker in the door which already has a tweeter and you don't want two drivers playing the same signals from different locations. But it's also completely subjective: some people like the sound with two tweeters.

If you're referring to the rear speakers: again, ideally in car audio, the fader should be panned pretty far forward as these rear speakers shouldn't be doing much. So replacing them isn't really necessary.

I always use Crutchfield. They will recommend on what you want to achieve.
They also supply how-to instructions, and custom connectors. I am always pleased with what they offer.

Here's a timely data point...

I've had the kit for a complete audio upgrade sitting around since May. Life got in the way this summer, and I've just now started installing it. I started with the absolute hardest part: the rear speakers. Below is what I put in (Kicker KSC40s), but not pictured are a ton of Tesa tape and lots and lots of sound mat. Audio stuff was from Crutchfield; tape and sound mat etc. were from Amazon.

I just finished the rear speaker install. I put non-continuous sound mat on the back walls of the cab and inside all the plastic trim pieces. Most of the mat will not stop "road noise" from getting through, but it has made a noticeable difference to resonance and random rattles. The back half of the truck is much more sonically "dead."

As far as the speakers themselves, I already think this is a worthy upgrade. As nobbyv said, I'm going to push the soundstage to the front (technically, I'm going to let the Kicker Key DSP do it), but the clarity in the back is already MUCH better... with $85 speakers, no less. A 4" cone isn't going to "thump," but just the fact that they actually HAVE tweeters helps immensely.

TL;DR rear speakers are worth it, if only because you can take all the trim off and improve the background noise levels with sound mat while you're in there.

Full disclosure: I have not done anything to the system EQ with Forscan yet, and the rear speakers took me maybe 8 hours including the sound mat and tape.

Cracking into the front doors next.

I am ready to find a different location for the back speakers. They are in an awful location for people riding back there.

You could do what the full size trucks around here with the Carolina squat do. Fill the bed with speakers and open the sliding rear window so you can hear some of it. Sitting on the porch I can hear them a mile after they pass the house
I will take that under consideration,,, NOT

I replaced the front only in my 2024 XLT with Power Bass speakers available on Amazon. The are a direct plug into the factory wiring. I use the fader to have more sound from the front speakers. Sounds good. The rear speakers look like a PITA to replace.

I thought others mentioned the front speakers didn't get the full spectrum due to there being tweeters directly fed also.

Or is the crossover on the front speakers which are fed the whole range?

Would love to see those stupid vehicles be totally outlawed from public roads. No way imo they could see a child, animal or a vehicle close to them, at least the ones I’ve seen jacked up so high the rear bumper would scrape on a speed bump

The signal from the head unit has an EQ on it before it is sent to the door speakers. Part of that EQ is likely rolling off the bass at some point (but also boosting midbass to compensate for the cheap components). The signal doubles back from the door speaker and goes up to the dash tweeter, which has a capacitor on it for blocking even more bass. It's janky IMHO, but it accomplished what Ford wanted.
