Has anyone successfully replaced the stock tweeters with 3.5" speakers? is there enough room if you cut out the dash?

It was a significant pain in the arse to mount these big Dynaudio tweeters(I think I had to cut the hole in the dash to almost 1.5" for them to fit), and I had to do it with a high wattage soldering iron and an L shaped metal rod inserted into it. Basically like a hot knife, because the windshield makes it very difficult to access. Even if you could cut it out enough, the mounting depth is minimal. I had to re-do my factory covers and cut a hole into them to clear the top of the tweeter, then cover with grill cloth.

You could probably make a piece shaped like the factory grill cover and top mount one on that, but I don't really see the point(and you'd still be limited on mounting depth. Any speaker you did manage to mount there is going to have zero bass/low midrange response, so you'd essentially end up with a 3.5" tweeter anyway. Just use a good component set that replaces the factory door speakers and dash tweeter, and the sound will be quite good, especially with a well setup DSP/amp combo.

Nice work. I hate those plastic tweeter and center speaker covers. I think it looks way better with the black material over them.
