I posted a discussion a few years back related to the gear shift locking after starting the vehicle. Initially it happened to my wife when we first got the truck 2 years ago. She was stranded in a parking lot. Well, the darn thing happened again as I was teaching my granddaughter to drive. Parked on an moderate to steep driveway incline. Emergency brake on. I instructed her to place her foot on the brake and start the car (hold until "Ready" indicator light). Keep foot on the brake, place the gear in reverse. Shifter locked tight. Repeated with various modifications, such as not placing her foot on the brake "too firmly". After repeated attempts, I tried with the same results the first time, but successful the second attempt. It doesn't seem like it should take a "magic process" to place your vehicle in gear!
Seems as you get a feel for how your vehicle operates, it is never an issue. But trust me, it makes me apprehensive about getting stranded some day.
Anybody else ever run into the problem?
Truck is a 2024 XL hybrid. Love the truck.

I've had the shift lock briefly. Key off, back on easy reset.
I don't recall the actual sequence of events that precipitated it happening, but I remember there was something unusual at the time.

Not at start up.

I can hear the brake-shift interlock working just fine.
I'm concerned about the day I won't, and have your issue.
Well, when it's cold I don't, and I didn't for a long time.
Hill you say - hmmm.
Stupid thing better not be effected by gravity.

Something is wrong here. It shouldn't require some secret sequencing to get your vehicle in drive. Hope we (my wife) don't end up stuck at some untimely opportunity. Surprised this isn't a more prevelant discussion point.

Twice after starting my 2022 XLT Hybrid, I sat for 30 seconds or so before attempting to shift into gear, but knob wouldn't turn. I turned vehicle off and restarted and everything worked fine. Happened 2x in 43 months.

It happened to my wife on our level driveway (parking brake off) in our 26 Hybrid. Turned the car off, then on (with brake pedal pressed) and it worked normally. The car had been parked overnight.
It has not reoccurred since.

We had it once on our new '26 Hybrid... but most likely due to being too quick to turn the shift dial and not having our foot firmly on the brake at same time. Made sure to press brake and then attempt gear selection, and it worked properly.

Our push button gear select Hyundai Sonata Hybrid did the same thing (all the time), if sequence wasnt in order, brake fully pressed, or sequence not timed just right.

Wonder if there maybe a switch of some kind on the pedal that starts getting touchy after awhile causing it, similar to the old "neutral safety switch"?

I can't recall having this issue with the Maverick. I have had a parking pawl get stuck due to parking on a hill. I found that the pawl would release if I rocked the car a bit, but that was on an old style tranny with shifter linkage. The Maverick is all electric so can't wait to experience this anomaly.

My dad had this happen to him once at start up on his 24 XL. It wouldn't shift into reverse at start up. Turned off the truck and tried again without issue. Have you had all recalls done?

Yeah, have stayed current on recall. Funny it doesn't happen to me but seems to occur with newer drivers of the vehicle.
