Both are unleaded. I use 93 when I can get it. Mileage is a bit better and George is happier.

Do i need to tune my Maverick for premium gas? Well I've been using premium since i took delivery back in November and I've just recently been getting questioned on if I've had it properly tuned for premium.

Owner's manual covers this.

Ecoboost; Premium 91+.
Hybrid; Regular 87+.

The Ecoboost is a high compression, direct inject, turbo charged, engine. If you use less than 91+ (per the owner's manual) you can induce knocking. Over a long period of time this is horrible for the engine. This isn't just for Ford's Ecoboost line but any engine of this type.

The hybrid engine is also rated at a high compression but it is an Atkinson cycle and has an effective lower compression ratio. As such, you can use Regular fuel in it just fine and it likely won't see any gains with Premium.

6100 miles only 87. Well I take that back tried some premium because the stations price difference was 10 cents. I saw zero difference, won't go back unless there is a price diff like that again.

The ecoboost has a WAY lower compression ratio 9.3 versus the 2.5 with 13 to 1

The hybrid is an Atkinson cycle engine and in operation has a lower compression ratio than the "rated" number you are quoting. It is why I said, "effective lower compression." During the first part of the compression cycle the intake valve is left open.

Edit: The 2.0 is a slightly lower compression ratio than the 10.5 I thought it did.

The EcoBoosts has knock sensors, so indirectly it senses the lower or higher octane by listening to the knock sensors and adjusting the ignition timing accordingly. Low octane in the Ford Maverick EcoBoosts engine will never harm the engine, even when towing the 4K amount. The engine will compensate with timing retardation and higher engine revs.

AFAIK, all US gas at commercial pumps is unleaded.

OP, you didn't say what vehicle you have, but if it's a Hybrid, all you need is 87 Octane, per the user manual. You might take a little time and actually read it. Lotsa helpful info in there.
