Just a rant .... Really, Ford? Was that the best you can come up with? This Maverick has the silliest fuse box location and accessibility out of any vehicle that I've ever owned in my entire life. You should not have to do an internet search to find out how to access the fuses or what fuse is what.

I'm charging an Anker Solex c1000 from the 12 volt plug up front. I would like the charge it from the inverter in the back but it does not work. From what I have read, it is because the inverter doesn't do the right kind of sine wave to make my Solex happy. I noticed that occasionally the tip of the cigar lighter plug gets hot and I keep reminding myself to push it in a little bit whenever I think about it. Finally something got hot enough in there and blew a fuse. I assumed it was the fuse in the cigarette lighter plug itself and I changed that. It still didn't work. Now, the hunt began for the 12 volt accessory fuse in the Maverick. Whatever happened to popping a kickboard under the steering wheel or behind the glove box? Why do we have to feel like we're disconnecting and removing an entire ECM just access the fuses? Otherwise, I love my truck. This is actually only the second thing that has annoyed me about it in almost 10,000. The first thing is it's absolute refusal to stay in first gear while descending a hill above about 5 mph, even when in manual paddle shift mode. I know it can do it because it does when you're in off road cruise control mode. That's the only way. Putting it in manual mode does not make a difference and it will always upshift to third at about 5 to 7 mph.

You should try accessing the fuses on a '75 Corvette. They are tucked way up behind the dash, behind a bunch of wiring and other stuff. I can't even see the fuse panel. When a fuse blows, I have my mechanic change it. I have no idea how he can get up in there!

I agree, the Fusebox is in a suckey place and immovable. I bought a Mabbett 3 light hood protecter and it's already to go except this old guy can't even see where it's supposed to plug in at, I'll have to pay someone to finish it.

What is the current draw of your device that blew the fuse? If the lighter connector was getting hot that is due to resistance which increases current. 12v circuit on a 15 amp fuse is good for 180watts. The AC receptacles are good for 10 amps but the manual says to NOT plug any power tool into it due to the motor load at start up.
Make sure you aren't overloading the circuit and do not put a bigger fuse in since the wiring can't handle the load. Possibly you know this already but just want to keep you and your ride safe.

Do not use the power outlet for these types of devices:
  • Cathode ray tube type televisions.
  • Motor loads, for example vacuum cleaners, electric saws and other electric power tools, or compressor-driven refrigerators.
  • Measuring devices which process precise data, for example medical equipment or measuring equipment.
  • Other appliances requiring an extremely stable power supply, for example microcomputer-controlled electric blankets or touch sensor lamps."

Replacing the fuse in the plug or truck didn't fix it, either. I suspected that the truck fuse would not fix it because the USB plugs in the same area never went out. That fuse apparently covers the 12v plug, the front USB plugs, and the wireless charger pad. I either damaged the truck's lighter plug or damaged the Anker recharge cord somewhere else.

I'm looking into upgrading the inverter that is built into the truck or maybe wire it direct somehow. Researching why the Anker will not recharge with 120v, the most likely reason for that is that the Ford factory inverter does not put out a good enough sine wave for some electronic devices. I put the Anker 120v recharge rate all the way down to 200w and is is still not happy. The 12v recharge rate is not adjustable.

The only things that are directly plugged into any of the truck plugs are the Anker (lighter) and my cell phone (USB) for Android Auto, both in the front. I use the Anker to run my camping fridge (only when I'm camping) and charge my drone batteries.

My brother, the one who convinced me to buy that big Anker would tell me, "Why are you trying to recharge it in the truck? It is big enough to run your camping fridge all weekend." I guess my answer is because I'm too lazy to bring it in and out every time I go camping or fly my drones. It comes with that 12v recharge cord and it has been charging just fine for months before this :)

Just an FYI, other Ford models use the same fuse box location for 10+ years....Escapes for instance.

Same on a 68 Mustang. Even harder to reach with my underdash AC unit. Fortunately there's only five fuses and I haven't had one go bad in years.
