Cool find, but I just don’t understand the fascination with overbed/bed tenting. Most of them are extremely expensive, or overly complicated.

I’d rather setup a 2 or 4 person tent, with waterproofing/winter proofing, a mattress, and/or cot in a fraction of the time and for a fraction of the price - and have way more room.

To each their own, I suppose.

My thoughts exactly. And you would have to take the tent down if you should want to drive your truck anywhere, so to me it just makes more sense to have a regular tent

Curious how well one of these would work with the tailgate at half mast and a 4x8 sheet of plywood (cut to fit length, 6' 2"? Or whatever).

In theory would fit a full mattress (2" too wide at the tailgate? I think an air mattress would be ok if you don't overinflate), so I you could maybe squeeze 2 folks instead of one.

Obviously less convenient since you need to keep the tailgate down to run with if (maybe you could get by with "slats", keep them diagonal in the bed). Food for thought.

Ok... I measured mine. An over the cab pop up slide in the width of the fenders will allow a QUEEN SIZE MATTRESS!

Here is my interpretation of the BamBed, Napier combo. Plywood plyform is <7" to sit on the wheel wells- just as wide as the BamBed but more room under the tent. Added roll-out shelving under the platform for easy storage.

OP - This is phenomenal. As someone who mountain bikes and wants to begin camping with my EB AWD Mav, this is a dream come true to see! I have a bed tent and would love to have this below! Any general plans or dimensions? I have almost 0 wood working skills but would be willing to learn/teach myself to accomplish this!

Thanks for the efforts OP, thoughts and Video!!!
As much as a truck bed tent sounds so great...I HAVE TO AGREE. This bed tent might keep you dryer in rain. But for the same money or less a standalone tent could have twice the space...there are Coleman 4 man tents out there for $60-$80, better options/space for air mattrise or cot, some tall enough to stand-up in to put clothes on/off....and so important a place to hang-out away from rain and mosquitos. A hurtle for tent beds is having to unload everything, take off tonneau, and put everything back in the bed. Reload camping gear...and reinstall tonneau. Most standalone tents are much easier, quicker to set up and take down.

FYI - the above tent is available at AliExpress.com/China for $80-$160 but AliExpress is a month shipping time from China. Most experienced campers do this...one person camper needs a 2 person tent, 2 people need a 3 or 4 person tent. A Maverick tent bed will be pressing to do a 1 person tent if all your gear is in the tent with you. Just some opinions.

A plus for bed tent camping is you could setup the bed tent and camp all over the country at Cabella, Walmart (at night), FreeCamping.com and dozens of other places that allow it...but not for me.

Love the Maverick but it does make me appreciate my Honda Element more and more...and that's why I kept it. Self contained TENT, with door locks.

Yup, I'll still be setting up my 6 man REI tent for camping. Even for solo trips. But once in a while crashing on the bambed could prove useful. Mostly I'd like to have the bambed for tiered storage. I don't think I'll need a drawer. These 4 totes (9" tall) will fit under the platform, along with a camping chair. I'll put a string on them to pull out. Then I'll have the main deck for the cooler and stuff. $600 for the bambed is a fraction of the cost of a "decked" system.

Found a tent on Amazon I'm gonna try out this summer.
Last year I camped in the bed of the Mav at the Ford Nationals using a mosquito net and a yoga pad as cushioning.
This one looks like it'll just fit with the truck tailgate down. Price not bad either!

it has a width of 59" and a side door. When you include the wheel wells, not sure how you'll get into it.

Edit: NVM, see now I was looking at the double version, the single is 39" wide. Oops.
