Found a Truck Bed Tent that fits Maverick!

Did all that! Is staking it essential for the tent to take shape? The two walls with the rods keeps flopping down! Maybe I'll give it another try in a much bigger space.

Does it get easier after the first install you think? Even folding it back after my failed attempt felt like folding a king size fitted sheet on top of the laundry! I didn't want to have to place it on the ground to avoid getting it dirty.

It will get easier after you're first successful install. When it comes to folding it, it doesn't have to be that neat. Make folds to make it about the length of the bag and roll it up. You can fold, compress or do what you like to fit it in the bag. It comes out just fine. I really like the tent, so if there's any info that I provide to help you enjoy it also, let me know.

I see the attachment strap closest to the tailgate is attached to the wheel. If you attached it behind the wheel well I think you'll find that it fits better. Just trying to help. Hopefully this suggestion helps you and others.

That was actually a question I have. The instructions show one of the straps attached to the wheel but that strap doesn't fit on our wheel any way other than using two straps to loop around the wheel!

Looks like you might have the same wheels. Stock XLT? If so, you'll find that the backside of spokes are concaved. It's enough to attach the hook. A work around for wheels that you can't get a hook onto, is to not use the hook and just use the strap as you would use rope. Just tie it around a spoke. You would only need one strap to do so. Hope that helps.

Cool, I just looked up the BamBeds, it's awesome. I think the tent not having a floor works better for that. Are you planning on sleeping on the BamBed, cuz it's not very long. You also won't have much height. Having a thin mattress or pad will help. Are you planning on doing a pullout drawer system. I'm very interested in seeing your setup and how well it works for camping. Please post pictures and let us know.

Yes the Napier bed is the perfect match for the bambeds that's why I want it to work. I purchased the tailgate extension so you can maximize the length of the bed. It's expensive but I know I won't be able to replicate something close to it.

You can stack the boards to make use of the truck bed for taller things. The platform sits on stilts which raises them above the wheel well to maximize width.

I have two sleeping pads that fits side by side and a full air mattress that also fits snugly on it.

It's 10 inches from the underside of the platform to the ridge on the bed so you can design a pull out drawer. He sells one for the Tacoma but not for the Maverick at the moment. He told me to use those storage containers for under the bed as an alternative.

I think you have to buy the extension otherwise it's pretty useless. I also had an idea from one of the guys on Reddit to prop up one of the boards to make it into a bench.

If I decided to put a floor in my bed I will do something similar. I like that yours seems to be lower than the BamBeds. I was thinking about using the wheel well to support the platform. I think I just wanted to build something.
I was going back and forth on whether I put a floor or not. Currently I'm leaning heavily towards not. After going camping I don't see a need for it. I can't think of enough, if any positives to warrant it for me. My air mattress is just about the height of the wheel well so it helps to make the entire truck bed flat for sleeping.

Cool find, but I just don’t understand the fascination with overbed/bed tenting. Most of them are extremely expensive, or overly complicated.

I’d rather setup a 2 or 4 person tent, with waterproofing/winter proofing, a mattress, and/or cot in a fraction of the time and for a fraction of the price - and have way more room.

To each their own, I suppose.

Because wildlife and the ground is cold.

Sure, you are not entirely protected, but it's more protection than being on ground level with them and especially on bigger vehicles with cab access you have one more egress option.

And ones with ladders should be pulled up when sleeping. They shouldn't rely on the ladder for support.

That said... I own a camper lol. I had enough of that tent crap in the Army.

Regular bed tents I can see. Just a soft version of a bed cap which I have used for camping a lot, in a 6foot bed Ranger however. Wouldn’t want to do it in a Mav.

But the elevated over bed units puzzle me.

Why an over bed tent?

Because of lions, tigers, and bears! Or killer Marmots.

And believe me, a determined bear isn’t going to be deterred by a five foot reach up a convenient ladder. You’ll just have farther to fall when you rip your way out of the tent trying to escape.

People who use these tents probably cook bacon for breakfast, or other odorous lip smacking foods. Bears love that. But, I digress.

Also, it’s really convenient to have to climb down a ladder in the middle of the night to relieve yourself.

Seriously though, as an expert backpacker, with years experience in AK, CO, WA, etc. all the supposed “benefits” of these things are simply not true. If you know what you are doing, and use the right equipment, sleeping in a tent on the ground works just fine, without all the drawbacks of an elevated bed tent.
