That likely is a phone issue. I had a 3-year-old Android 12 phone when I first got my Maverick and it was glitchy at best. I've since upgraded to a newer Android 15 phone, and I have no issues with Android Auto on Connected Touch Radio.
I have android 10. After reading up on it online, I don't think my phone is compatible with voice dialing. As far as I can tell, the truck connects to the phone via bluetooth and then activates the voice recognition in the phone. Since my phone doesn't seem to support offline voice recognition, its not likely to work with driving while away from wifi. I keep data turned off on my phone since I don't have that much. I have a newer phone, but its a piece of junk compared to the older phone so I don't use it.

It was barely a month after I took delivery of my '23 Maverick that Ford did an update on the FordPass app, and obsoleted my Android. Researched and determined that iPhones update their OS (operating system), so I made the switch, and never looked back.

Android is bad about that. Stuff works fine, then it doesn't work at all after an update.

I was mistaken about voice recognition in the Android 10 phone. Offline mode works fine, however, it still doesn't work with the truck yet.

You're blaming an issue with app developer coding update on an operating system. All operating systems are susceptible to this, not just Android.

Not sure what your budget is, but you can get a heck of a phone right now for $120.

I bought a Motorola Edge Plus 2023 from boost for $60, and you pay $60 for one month of service. You can get a free unlock code to unlock the SIM card on the slick deals thread or from i-imei for about $5.

I'm actually liking this phone better than my $1,200 MSRP pixel 9 Pro XL.

Also, I'm not sure if this works the same on previous years but on my 2025 if you short-press the steering wheel's "voice command" button, it brings up the truck's built-in Ford's voice assistant

If you long-press the same button, it calls up your phone's voice assistant (Siri, Assistant, Gemini etc)

On mine, short press seemed to get its attention, but still not work. Long press did nothing. I have the 2024 XL. The 2025 has more bells and whistles.

I have a motorola I got in 2021 for about $200. Its been great for the most part. It has 8 cores - 7 for running spyware and 1 to run the phone. Recently I'm thinking that 15 cores for the spyware would have been better. I have T-mobile and pay $10/month. Unlimited voice and text, but data is hard capped to 1GB. That's why I can't run around with data turned on.

I did find out that it supports offline voice recognition, so its still possible for it to work with the truck voice dialing, I just haven't figured it out yet.

Sounds a little conspiracy theorist there with the spyware.

You can always install lineage OS if you're worried about it and your device is compatible.

LineageOS – LineageOS Android Distribution https://share.google/yCf0OMJMzCYmGgd7X

Looks like you can get mint mobile unlimited plan for $15 a month, for 12 months.

I may look into LineageOS. I only pay T-mobile $10/month and its not paid up front. They hit my card once a month. The last time I looked, they don't carry the $10 plan any more and only have the $15/month plan for new customers. I think with the $15 plan they give you 3GB of data, but like I said, these discount plans have hard capped data so when you run out you get no more data until the next billing cycle. People that pay double that usually get soft capped data that throttles down to 3G speed when you hit your limit.

Staying on a 1Gb plan to save $5 / month vs unlimited isn't a choice I'd make

Google Fi has 50% off plans right now.

$17.50 for 30gb, $25 for 50gb.
Both slowed to 256kbps after the limit

Mint Mobile has Unlimited for $15/month if you pay for a year. Possible deprioritization, not throttled, after 35gb.

What happens after the sale is over?

The $15 unlimited goes to $30 after a year. If I switched, there is no going back to the $10 Tmo plan since they don't offer it any more. So in 2 years, I spend $240 with tmo and $540 with mint. That doesn't really make any sense since I don't use that much data.

I have two more phones that are on the tmo $10/year plan. No data at all. only 1000 voice minutes per year, but they are cheap - and of course those plans aren't offered by tmo anymore either. I keep them for backup.
