Does anyone know if it's possible to increase the power limit before the engine goes from electric to gas? From what I can tell if I Go easy on the accelerator and stay under 10% power it will stay on electric. Once I get past about 12% it switches over to gas and I was wondering if we can perhaps increase that to 20% before switching.

I imagine that you maxing that electric motor out at about 10%. Increasing the transition point wouldn't noticeably increase the power to the wheels, just overwork the motor by running it when the gas engine should have taken over.

Check with livernois or Cobb and see if they have come out with any tuner stuff for the 2.5

You would spend lots of $$$ to make the mods (if they even exist), and it would take forever to recover the cost in gas savings. You simply have to trust that engineers at Ford gave you the best product they could. Maybe next year they'll add a second HV battery and everything will be better, but right now things are just what they are. Learn to drive the hybrid in the most economical way [possible without impeding traffic and enjoy the 40MPG you're getting.

No.

It is a current (amps) limitation.
The wires are only capable of so many amps.

When you are in EV mode you get the safe current limit divided by 2. (Half)
This has been measured to be about 75 amps.

The wiring / fuses / junction boxes / etc. have a safe limit of 150 amps.

When in EV you get half the amps for the wheels, because it needs to reserve the other half of the current to start the gasoline engine.

Once the gasoline engine is already running, it does not need to hold back, and you can send the full 150 amps to the wheels. You get more electric "kick" with the gas engine on.

This is not intuitive, but hope it makes sense.

Would be cool if you could increase the voltage or something.

My old Lexus CT200h use to put more power output using sport mode (500V eco and normal, 650V sport) which funny enough resulted in better MPG using sport mode because you could be in electric more.
