Yes - you can power a drill with the bed outlet. Just need to have the engine on.

Sure it works, but is it going to bog down and overheat the inverter under a sustained work load, I wonder.

Not really sure - I only needed to use it for a total of 3 minutes.

I had a 400W inverter back in the day (around the turn of the century) that I used with a plug-in Milwaukee Sawzall to install chainlink fence post in a remote area. It worked, but barely. I had to reset the inverter's breaker if the saw got bogged at all.
That said, all of my tools are Makita battery powered now and the Mav's inverter handles the charger well.

Does the engine need to be running to use the outlet? Or does the engine only kick in when the battery is low?

I needed the engine ON when powering the drill. It would not work when the engine was off.

Thanks. That unfortunate. I was hoping that the Maverick hybrid would be similar to the F150 hybrid with pro power. With the F150 the ignition has to be on, but the engine only runs when the battery is low. Hopefully Ford will make a Ranger hybrid with pro power.
