Bullshit. A 20k truck launching when everything else has ballooned to 30-50k. Particularly one that would offer the same ride quality as an SUV. Then you have the additional high mpg hybrid. This was always going to be a hot vehicle because it hits so many market segments.
If this was such an obvious slam dunk, why was nobody else doing it?

MBA's are stupid people and most companies are run by them.

It's self-evident in the quote. They all ballooned the price of the vehicles to chase profit margins. Tech is cheap compared to the surcharge. Which is why car companies disable features they put into their vehicles.

The same can be said about a lot of things no one had previously had the thought, courage, desire, etc. to try. Not every good idea has yet been had or executed, no matter how obvious it may seem after the fact.

Hindsight is always 20/20. It's irrelevant to the post I was responding to because Ford (and everybody else) had no surefire way of knowing this truck would be so popular with consumers when it was being developed.

It really is much like the 1965 Mustang. Ford saw a market need, and filled it, ahead of others.

The Santa Cruz is really not in the same class. Not a bad vehicle, just a different niche. I'd never buy one for a variety of reasons.

The current parts shortages screwed things up for Ford (and some others), but it won't last forever. And by MY 2025, there will be more competition.

Be fun to watch.

It's easy to say things like this and have sentiments like this when it's sitting in your garage or driveway.
Ask the people who ordered in June and are still waiting and they might have a slightly different attitude about Ford.
It’s not sitting in my garage, nor do I have it yet

I was never a ford person. In fact, I vowed never to buy a Ford. My dad bought a Ford Pinto. I never liked it, even before the "gas tank" problem. So, fair:: been a AMC, Renault, Chevy GMC owner until my S10 died and I needed a vehicle asap. That's when Ford came again into my life. I bought a 2002 used Focus. That thing was a great little car. Then I leased my next 2 cars, Escapes. I don't feel I'm a fanatic. I just currently have liked Ford autos.

I really don't think Ford is trying not to get our trucks to us, we just happen to be in a time where we can't buy one on a lot, or go to another dealer and buy on a lot, or order a vehicle and get us one in 3 months. (Ps, I got my current escape in 24 hours as my specs was at another dealer 90 miles away).

When I placed my order, I wasn't in the know about chip shortages or supply chain problems 1 year after shut downs and lock-downs. I just wanted a vehicle. I thought I'd get it by December, HA!

After all that being said, I truly believe Ford wants to build my truck. Just like other manufacturers do, we just have to wait. And maybe have Ford give us sump'in, sump'in for our stresses because we had to wait, in addition to FITS stuff. And, make mine and your trucks more fair: June orders before July orders, July orders before August, etc. Etc.

To answer the title of this thread, I too don't think Ford isn't so bad, but they need ordering/delivery improvement.

I'm talking the pandemic and resulting supply chain issues.

Appreciate this! Lol breath of fresh air. Did you get your truck already?
Yep yep. A little over 6 months after ordering, but it arrived safe and sound.

I'm not dissing Ford. They started making new vehicles before the shit show really started. How could they know the "pandemic" was going to get as stupid as it did? A lot of the blame has to be put on the shady dealers that went over there allocations and didn't put the orders in correctly! Where I really think Ford dropped the ball is that they are marketing this truck only to young, urban adults and there are a ton if us old, country dwelling farts that have been wanting a cheap, daily driver like this for years!

Here's the thing about marketing. Nobody wants something marketed to old people--not even old people. Had they marketed it only to "old, country dwelling farts," they wouldn't have sold many to anyone--including "young, urban adults." But since they marketed it to "to young, urban adults," they will also sell a bunch to "old, country dwelling farts."

I never wanted a "mid-size" truck. For what they cost, I might as well buy a full-size truck. Plus the mpg sucks. I had a 1989 Chevy S10, tech 4 engine, 5-speed. Bought it new and drove that thing until it couldn't take the Ohio winters anymore. I was able to get 24mpg out of it back then. I do a lot of highway driving, so a hybrid isn't practical for me.

Do you not understand that these products have been in development for probably somewhere between 5 and 10 years? Do you not agree that the economy, supply chain circumstances and demand for vehicles overall was vastly different 5 years ago when the framework for the Maverick rollout was probably developed in concept? By the time the pandemic and supply chain crisis reared their ugly heads the process was already locked an loaded, you can't just make major changes on the fly.
Three years to beat Santa Cruz to market. Six years for Santa Cruz.

Detroit Free Press

What does the Ford Maverick have to do with Oreos, you might ask? According to The Detroit Free Press, quite a bit. Katie Pecoraro, Maverick program management supervisor, noted that the team worked tirelessly to whip up the Ford Maverick in a condensed timeline. “We cut 20 months out of the usual time frame for a product life cycle,” Pecoraro said.

Another three years will tell us if rushing a project produced a good product.
