Ford dropping AM radio from SYNC

My '69 Buick ONLY had AM radio.

I remember the days of an "FM Converter" connected to the AM radio. Dedicated one of the AM push buttons to the converter. Damn - there is old dirt and I'm next to it. LOL!

I assume cars have digital tuners now so it's probably more about streamlining chip supply chains and being able to build trucks amid constraints.

Manufacturers are moving to remove AM for technical reasons. With more electrification, there is more RF noise generated, much of which ends up in the lower bands blocking AM reception. It started first on electric cars, now moving mainstream as more processors, big screens and other stuff shows up. No way the manufactures are spending the money to really quiet down the spurious emissions.

Its unfortunate for rural users, but it’s an artifact of the digital age.

Been there - Done that...
I will miss AM if it's dropped from the Maverick that I may get some day. News, sports, traffic, weather on AM. I also wonder what's next. Ford's cost reduction team must be working OT.

Not surprised as it’s not 1985 anymore. I’ve never used or even known anyone to listen to AM except for if its a severe storm watch or something. Complaining about that is like complaining why they don’t use smoker windows anymore or having high beam button on the floor as a foot button.

I actually like AM for sports radio on days where certain sporting events are blacked out in my area on TV, but really AM radio has never been the same since Art Bell went off the air.

You can only stream if you have connection to the internet. Should the world go from sugar to shit, and the internet is down, the AM band might come in handy

Radio stations get all their info over the internet, so what good would AM be? Go down to Radio Shack and make a radio that you can transmit from. Oh crap RS is gone too.

How am I gonna listen to Wolfman Jack on XERF ? If you've never listened to distant stations at night while on a lonely drive using the "skip" phenomenon of AM radio you've missed out. CBS Mystery Theater was also a favorite.
