Ford Credit Card Dealer Charging me 3.5% for using it.???

I had the oil and tires rotated last week. Went to pay the bill. Was using my Ford Credit Card. Dealer informed me there would be a 3.5% sur charge. Add on. Has anyone ran into this with there dealer. Its crazy.. The service and parts department makes a very high margin. "Profit" I asked it there was a cash discount for paying cash. They looked at me like i was out of my mind for even asking. This upsets me. Being a business owner, credit card fees are a normal cost of doing business. Since i am on the subject... My Ford dealers tacks on a $10.00 charge for shop supply's. Even if they never used any. On a oil change, only shop supply is a $.03 paper shop towel for the mechanic to whip his/her hands off with. They also, had a oil disposal charge. Being from the North Country. I know for a fact these oil change company's sells there oil to a used oil vendor. Heck, they come right to the dealership and pump the used oil out. In the North Country some shops heats there building with used oil. They purchase the used oil from the used oil vendor. Please let me know, is this common? Unhappy Consumer..!!!

I think credit card companies had a lockdown on businesses not charging extra, might check with the card issuer- but otherwise you're just stuck going somewhere else for all the other fees.

If enough people were to tell the dealership management why they're going somewhere else, maybe the fees would change.

Depends on the dealership. Mine doesn't charge in the garage; does charge if you use it on a vehicle purchase.

Your cash discount is not being charged 3.5%. I can't say I have seen this at a dealership before, but it's common enough that I'm not sure why your surprised or shocked.

Well in Texas it might be against the law but there are exceptions. Even if you pay at DMV or at county property tax office you can swipe your card using a reader owned by a contractor who collects a "convenience fee" for furnishing the reader. I do not know how the fee is or is not divided between state and contractor. One restaurant I go to is cash only but has an universal ATM on site while another collects a convenience fee and the card shows your purchase made at "xyz company".

Check your state laws. I ran into this once with a roofing contractor, he first said the cc company "required" him to add the fee, then changed his story to swearing they disclosed the fee up front, took me researching the law and threatening to turn them into the state for them to remove the charge

If a business taks on a surcharge, I pay cash.

As for disposal fees, might want to ask.

Just checked one of my oil change tickets for my Navigator. Straight forward, charged me for oil and labor, nothing else. Done at Lincoln service.
