For Illinois Maverick owners, do you have B truck plates?

When I got my Maverick about a month ago, the dealer slapped car plates on it. I asked if that was ok, and the finance guy said yeah, it is all based on weight and size. I said I didn’t think so, but he assured me that was ok. Fast forward about 3 days, they salesman calls me and says I need to come back and get B plates. So I did. It didn’t cost anything, but it seemed strange that I got two answers from the same place.

Among people I have talked too, I have also gotten conflicting answers, cannot find any information on the Secretary of State website. I think I’ll just end up getting the Environmental plates, but this was extremely confusing.

I read the Illinois Secretary of State guidelines for truck licensing and I interpreted that a Maverick being under 8000 GVW was eligible for regular passenger plates.
The local DMV that issues the plates insisted that I get "B" plates. It seemed to me that the DMV just see that the vehicle is a truck so therefore it needs a "B" plate and didn't want to make a decision about the 8000 GVW limit.

I also bought from Granger, and can confirm the Sec. of State issued B plates that I received in the mail about 30 days after purchase.

When I bought my Maverick they transferred my organ donor plates, my buddy bought a Maverick a week later from the same dealer, they didn't transfer his passenger plates.

I was originally issued B-plates, then switched to -SF (Sporting Series-Fishing).

Scroll down this page for your Environmental plates https://www.ilsos.gov/departments/vehicles/license-plate-guide/environmental.html

In Illinois do they go by CGVWR? If they do my Maverick is over 8k.
Just curious

No, they go by the weight of the vehicle.
